Movie Review: Race

Let me begin with the story straight away. Oh wait, you must be kidding. Even if I try to jot that down for you, it's not gonna be easy as Race has more twists and turns than the curves on Katrina, Bipasha and Sameera combined together! Trust me you wouldn't wanna know what's gonna happen next beforehand. Enjoy the suspense, the thrills, the lies, the deceit and the double-crossings first hand on a big screen. And I bet you will enjoy every bit of it. It's Abbas-Mustan back to business - doing what they are best at - crime thriller.
As with the story, you are also caught unaware most of the times that who is the main hero of the movie. Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna both have meaty roles and they have done full justice to their parts quite convincingly. As the adventure-sports loving suave stud farm owner and elder brother, Saif Ali Khan shows his maturity and delivers a polished performance. On the other hand, Akshaye Khanna excels in a brat's role tailor made for him. He gets most of the funny one liners in the first half. As the younger brother, who has no interest whatsoever in his family business, his screen presence is terrific. Watch his expressions change like a chameleon within moments just like his plans and you'll understand what I am saying.
Surprisingly, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif too get something to do other than oozing oomph. Bipasha carries forward from where she left in Dhoom 2 and fits into the ploy seamlessly. Katrina does need to improve on her acting but I won't deduct any stars from this movie review for that. She does soar the temperature high with her two super-hot numbers.
When the script is in favor of these main protagonists that much, it hardly leaves any scope for other actors. But not so when you have Anil Kapoor around. Actually it takes to be an Anil Kapoor to accept this kind of role and deliver a knock out performance yet again. As a fruit loving detective, he plays to the gallery and gets most of the seetis and taalis in the second half. Sameera Reddy tries to do a dumb "Kitty" to his genius "Karamchand" and I am sure she must have had a tough time resisting herself from shaking her legs in the sunny beaches of Cape Town.

The movie looks fresh with outstanding locales of Durban and Cape Town. Cinematographer Ravi Yadav has done a brilliant job in capturing the beauty with his lenses. Action is good too although one sequence towards the end of the movie looks too exaggerated. You'll notice it when you watch it. They could have done away without that. Salim-Sulaiman's background score adds zing to the proceedings. Editing is almost perfect.
That Abbas-Mustan are master story tellers, its beyond doubt. Here again they have managed to keep viewers' interest hooked throughout this edge of the seat entertainer full of "Holy shit" moments. However, I still wonder why do they add unwanted songs which slow down the narration momentarily. I remember watching their Khiladi a decade and a half back and I didn't quite like the way "Wada raha sanam..." song popped out of nowhere; I thought it's ok as they are new directors. Unfortunately that has not changed yet. The songs are good and well-picturized especially Atif Aslam's "Pehli nazar mein..." but some can easily be chopped off to make Race even racier.
We have not had many good releases this year so far but I think happy days are here again for Bollywood. Go have fun, enjoy Race and have a wonderful Holi!

Ripoff of A MOVIE Goodbye Lover
funny i saw this film and i remembered some things from it. it is a ripoff of an american film goodbye lover starring patricia artquette. i don't know why these guys get so much credit. let's look at their films and their ripoffs.
1. khiladi copy of khel khel mein
2. baaziger copy of a kiss before dying
3. daraar copy of sleeping with the enemy
5. baadshah copy of nick of time and rush hour
6. ajnabee copy of consutlening adults.
7. aitraaz copy of disclosure
add this to their list of ripoffs. it is an okay story. saif is good so is akshay and anil. bipasa is just average. katrina needs to take some more acting lessons. she is hot and only got this far thanks to sleeping with salman. (funny she never declares him as her boyfriend in public) sameera is okay but not really and actress and will fade out soon.
is has awesome songs.
overall i rate the film 6/10
wait for it on dvd
Re: Movie Review: Race
I enjoyed watching Race because of Akshaye Khanna's superb performance. He is the scene-stealer! I love the scene where Akshaye Khanna dies at the end after cheating Saif Ali Khan and the shirtless of Akshaye Khanna in a video shown by Saif . Akshaye Khanna is a mindblowing villain! He stands out in Race and it is his outstanding performance!
Fake
You fool i have seen all english films and none of these relate to any abbas mustan film
Re: Movie Review: Race
copy or no copy race was still very good. how many of us have actually watched or even heard of goodbye lover? so just chill and enjoy race.
Re: Movie Review: Race
Stylish Thriller. I love the suspense and thrills. Rocking performances. Smart Direction and Screenplay. Well-Done, Abbas Mustan. Akshaye Khanna steals the show. He stands out as Rajiv Singh - younger & jealous brother - shrewd rogue. Akshaye Khanna is an incredible actor - a genius - as villain. His wonderful shrewd performance suits the character and the script.
Re: Movie Review: Race
How can you even compare the 2 movies? One is a classic period movie while the other is just worth one watch flick. There is nothing new about race ( style, action similar to Dhoom, script -lifted from a Hollywood movie). Talk about senseless comparison.
Re: Movie Review: Race
You fools, Abbas-Mustan are so cheap and full of plagiarism that they have even copied their film poster from Tashan.
Stop giving credit to copy-cat guys. In your school exams the guy sitting next to you who copied everything from you did not deserve to get the credit for your excellence.
The only way we can send a message to such plagiarists is to stop watching their movies and stop praising them, and openly criticising them.
Re: Movie Review: Race
Race is a rocking movie. It is one of the best movies i have seen in recent memory. It is definitely the best movie of 2008 till date. Saif was incredible. Bipasha and Katrina looked sexy as hell. And Abbas-Mustan did an incredible job. The music is also great, with not one boring song.
Overall i would rate the film:
5/5
Re: Fake
If you don't see any similarity then you should watch those(English movies) again or watch it with someone who understands english,Abbas Mastan can only make remakes(read copy)
RACE - THE BIGGEST BAD-COPY EVER
i have not seen the goodbye lover, but i m sure knowing abbas-mustan's previous record, they must have live upto their repution of copycats. RACE was full of copy. from every aspect. script from goodbye lovers, action from Dhoom (sorry but dhoom is also such a bad copy of fast and furious) music from korian songs (pahli nazar and kiss me was straight lift). apart from this, if u think of it, cinematography was poor (we shoot much better films these days) and sameera reddy was worst comedy ever.
saif did same job as Ek haseena thi, Akshay did same what he did in hamraaz and naqaab, bipasha didnt have anything great to do, so do katrina. why the hell anil kappor did that karamchand role.(again copy)
GUYS PLEASE, HOW COME U LIKED THIS FILM.
AND for guys who thinks coz nobody sees english film, gives right for few directors to get those good stories to u, then u r so wrong. all these so-called-good directors like sanjay gupta, abbas mustan are such a bad copycat. watch Akele hum Akele Tum (copy of Kramer vs Kramer) or Ek ruka hua faisala (12 Angry Men) these are good copy. atleast they took the story and did their own direction. AND i admire Vishal Bhardwaj who gives credit to sheksphere for the storyline. He did indianization of the original storyline.
u have to have some brains make good films
Re: Movie Review: Race
