Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

Taare Zameen Par
, could be a story of many Chintus or Buntys in your family or neighborhood or about Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi. It is a story about Inu, an above average child of average parents. Played brilliantly by Darsheel Safary, Inu reflects the plight of a child suffering from dyslexia trying to fight his way out in the mad world which accepts nothing but toppers and has no place for "idiots and duffers".

On one side is Inu, with his difficulty to read and write, who wants to break free and reach the sky, play with the moon and the stars. His world consists of flowers, butterflies and fishes. Inu has a passion for colors, expressing his beautiful thoughts and ideas in his paintings. However, this remains unnoticed and unappreciated as he repeats class, gets punished and has a report card full of red marks. On the other hand are his parents, which could again be a story of many Mr and Mrs. Sharmas or Mr. and Mrs. Saxenas or as in this case story of Mr. and Mrs. Awasthi. Ignorant of their child's problems and lost in their world of limited dreams and ambitions, they are just another parents trying to find a solution in their own ways, hassled but still loving Inu as much as they would love Yohan, their topper son. Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma play the role of Inu's Mamma-Papa to perfection.

The movie with an interesting storyline, presentation and lovely performances by its actors evokes different emotions as you witness Inu's unsuccessful but cutely brattish ways of fighting and finding acceptance at home, neighborhood and school, his sad and silent plight at the new boarding school and finally as he breaks free and finds acceptance with Nikumbh Sir's (Aamir Khan) help. Inu's "I don't give a damn" attitude and expressions on the face on being taken up for task brought many a smile on our face, while the song "Meri maa" definitely had tears rollling down our cheeks. Shankar Ehsan Loy have given the kind of music the movie deserved.

The well created characters of Yohan, Tiwari Sir, Rajan Damodarn (class topper), etc. reflect different shades of our society making the entire canvas of Taare Zameen Par colorful and complete. To say the least its a treat to the eyes to see Aamir Khan in the role of a teacher, once again proving that he can carry himself with panache in any role. Aamir the actor does a RDB again by selflessly giving center stage to a new comer. What better proof for his self-belief and no insecurity whatsoever. As for his acting, no amount of praise can do justice to his yet another towering performance. He is special.

Aamir Khan the filmmaker and story teller is as brilliant as Aamir Khan the choosy actor. In his directorial debut he has given us a masterpiece that is being lauded by both critics and audience alike. Everyone is simply loving it. The fact that no one in the audience wanted to walk out of the theater until the very last of those 18 reels speaks volumes of its entertainment value. Taare Zameen Par gives a strong message without being preachy. It's all about understanding, caring and loving your children.

Darsheel Safary is terrific and his performance certainly merits an award. His expressions say it all. Too good! TZP belongs to this wonder kid.

Taare Zameen Par deserves applause and all the stars for presenting a complex situation in a sweet n simple way. While the movie touches different chords of human emotions, it would, I am sure have many parents, teachers and elders sit back and think. Yet I am not giving it 5 stars for the movie is not without its share of blemishes. One it's slow at times. Two, in between it seems repetitive in the first half.

Yes, every child is special and so is Aamir Khan's hairstlyle in the movie!!! Watch the end scene where many kids sport that hairstyle. It's cute!

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

after watching this movie.....I have no doubt in my mind that this should be India's entry to Oscars.....the only movie this year that might have a chance to win......

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

This is simply a " wow " ! film. Exceptionally well ! The boy has acted brilliantly. Really the kids in the film are real star. And to make them shine Aamir has worked quite well. It is THE film which has a capability to attach its vibes with just anyone be it a kid or a parent. One of the excellent film I have ever seen till now.

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

I can say that this is most touching movie i have ever seen. I salute Amir khan for his choice of subject and also for choice of small kid who acted in this movie like a more than a star of bollywood Industry. So really this movie will definitly help lot of parents. Really, Amir you are a Hero in true sense who make complete movies with complete messages....Full marks to you.

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

another movie that brought the best out of child actors was Masoom, another touching tale of innocent kid caught in the midst of games adults play......that movie has its own mark in Indian movie history....TZP if not better is definitely in the same league.....with a very relevant story line for our generation and anyone who grew up in India trying to be a Doctor and Engineer can completely empathize with what was going on.....

Darsheel Safary should get the best actor award....I don't know about filmfare but atleast the National Award....

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

sadly..i have not had the chance to watch this movie...i really would like to watch it though...it seems so good!!!! i can't wait until i watch itt!!! and with all the great responses to the movie..it just makes me want to it watch more!!!! :)

...

I typically dont watch bollywood movies but made an effort to watch this time cos of all the rave reviews and Aamir Khan.

The movie has its heart in the right place with a solid message but its over hyped, in my opinion. A bit melodramatic (i guess it is a bollywood movie) but also on the preachy side. The cinematography is alright but something is really lacking in a story that is different by bollywood standard but told and retold many times over in other movie industries.

To call it "brilliant" and India's submission in the Oscars is an overkill.
The fact is India has catching up to do in forms of art - esp. photography, pop music and motion picture

5.5/10 at best

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

simply SUPERB

Re: Movie Review: Taare Zameen Par

I would say that this movie was the best movie of year 2007 even in comparison to om shanti om. It is a fact that amir khan has proved himself as a best actor and also a best director in the film industry. the child actor he presented in the movie was superb. His acting was outstanding and he does deserve all the awards in the best actor category and definitely amir khan deserves the best director in 2008s award function.

The movie completely spoke about the issues faced by todays children. The emotions depicted was outstanding which made everyone in my family cry esp me.

I would like to wish amir khan all the best in his career and hope he reaches more heights and wish that he makes more interesting and reality based movies in upcoming years.

Thank you........
