Music Review: Naqaab

Abbas-Mustan
have mostly teamed with Venus to give edge of the seat intriguing thrillers with good music. But this time they have teamed with TIPS for the first time after Soldier in 1998 to give us another shocking thriller - Naqaab, starring the Humraaz duo Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna along with debutante Urvashi Sharma. Music is by Pritam Chakraborty while lyrics is by Sameer. Good thing, I guess for the movie, is that it has only 3 main songs. However, that's exactly the negative thing about the music album. At the end of it, you are left wanting for more although the three songs provide good hearing. Agreed there are remix versions too, but do they count?

Ek Din Teri Raahon - 1. Javed Ali, 2. (remix by A Myth Sharma) Zubin Garg
The album begins with a new voice in the form of Javed Ali, singing "Ek Din Teri Raahon Mein". Music takes backseat here with only light guitar and orchestra. Javed Ali does a decent enough job. Zubin Garg sings the remix version, which is equally good.

Aye Dil Paagal Mere - 1. (remix) Sonu Nigam, 2. (remix) Sunidhi Chauhan, 3. Sonu Nigam
This is the best track of the album with three different versions. Surprisingly, the original comes at the end. First comes the remix version sung by Sonu Nigam, followed by the remix version sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. This is a highly passionate song with some kind of haunting feel attached. Sonu Nigam is in brilliant form giving his best with Pritam providing great music, somehow reminding me of Gupt's music. Sunidhi Chauhan sings her version in a very husky voice to the extent that initially I thought Sonu Nigam was singing it :). Nevertheless, a wonderful composition!

Aa Dil Se Dil Mila Le - 1. Alisha Chinai, Krishna, 2. (remix by Jatin Sharma) Alisha Chinai, Krishna
There is something about Krishna's voice that makes his songs a little different. Remember "Main Jahan Rahoon" from Namastey London? Alisha Chinai gives good company in this Indian-cum-Middle Eastern-cum-Western supposedly climax song full of drum-n-dhol beats. There is a remix version too.

Disguised Intentions - Instrumental
The well arranged and orchestrated theme track "Disguised Intentions" will certainly go well with the fast paced narration (hopefully) of Naqaab. It has "Aye Dil Paagal Mere" in chorus throughout.

As mentioned earlier, it's a good sign for this kind of movie to have less songs but then as a music lover one might be disappointed with the album having only three major tracks. And on top of it, none of them, barring "Aye Dil Paagal Mere" to some extent, creates the real magic. I was expecting a lot from the makers of such musical hits as Khiladi, Baazigar, Soldier, Baadshah, Ajnabee, Humraaz and Aitraaz. Even their last flick 36 China Town ranks better.

Re: Music Review: Naqaab

I have always liked Abbas-Mastan films. Barring the misadventure of Ajnabee they have managed to present some gripping stories with very good music. Lets hope for the best this time too. Music looks good. Hope the film is also enjoyable.

"Sonu Nigam is in brilliant form giving his best with Pritam providing great music, somehow reminding me of Gupt's music".
Yes the remix programmer must be a fan of viju shah
