Movie Review: The Simpsons Movie

I don't know if I am qualified to review this movie, because I didn't grow up on Simpsons. Neither have I sought every episode and tried to catch up on it. I've always preferred the much cruder South Park and to a certain extent Family Guy over Simpsons. I know it's my loss and maybe someday I'll watch all of Simpson's episodes and realize my folly. So when I walked into the movie theatre to watch The Simpson's Movie, I walked in with a clean slate, with no knowledge of inside jokes, importance of certain characters or the different themes that surround the series.

Starring: Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif.

I think this was one of the most awaited movies of this year, because of the pairing of Salman Khan and Govinda under the direction of comedy master David Dhawan. The movie is a copy of the Hollywood flick 'Hitch' starring Will Smith but which movie isn't. Most of the movies movies in Indian cinema are copies of Hollywood films barring some exceptions who still have some creating thinking left in them. Like the other 90% of the copied films, this also fails but not entirely.

Music Review: Marigold

Marigold, the much awaited Salman Khan's Hollywood venture, directed by Willard Carroll is set to be released on 12th August 2007. The plot is in the lines of the 2001 flick, "Bollywood calling". While Bollywood Calling shows the plight of a US based Mr Patrick's journey through Bollywood industry, Marigold showcases the emotional rollercoaster-esque experience of an american actress, Marigold Lexton (played by Ali Larter of Legally Blonde and Final Destination fame). A typical bollywood plot with the lead pair in love but, are to be engaged with other, yada yada and the rest is history.

Music Review: Abhijeet Sawant’s Junoon…

While the buzz is on for finding the third Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant, the first and the original Indian Idol is out with his second album called “Junoon” after a gap of two long years when he first released his debut album called “Aapka Abhijeet”.

“Junoon” is quite a transformation from what we have seen coming from Abhijeet in his previous album. This one has a total of ten tracks that are a mixture of pop, rock and sufi. The songs are very urban, youthful and exude a fresh appeal. In and all, the album is completely rocking with some really nice tracks that seem to now fit right with the kind of talent that Abhijeet initially promised in Indian Idol. This album can surely promise to take the career of Abhijeet to some awesome heights.

Music Review: Heyy Babyy

Sajid Khan's much awaited movie Heyy Babyy's music was released a few days ago and it has HIT written all over it. There is a certain standard that you come to expect of Shankar Ehsaan and Loy and they'll meet your expectations with this latest release. After watching the trailers and knowing a little about the story, I was expecting some nice dance and upbeat numbers and those are the high points of this album. There's one love song and one "lori" type number which sound fine after repeated listening, but nothing out of the world....
