Music Review: Partner

The Kings of Comedy - David Dhawan and Govinda have now partnered with Salman Khan to entertain us non-stop with their forthcoming flick - Partner. Produced by Sohail Khan under the banner of Sohail Khan Productions and K Sera Sera, Partner has music by Sajid-Wajid. This music director duo has had some decent success in the past with Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, The Killer, Tere Naam, Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai and Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya. Seems they are in good books of Salman Khan. And to their credit, they have not disappointed in Partner. Music goes in sync with the genre of the movie - fulltoo masti! Do not have high hopes though with the standard of lyrics, music and songs overall. Just imagine Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif matching steps with Salman Khan and Govinda and you might as well end up liking it! There are seven tracks in all including two remixes.
Do U Wanna Partner - Wajid, Shaan, Udit Narayan; Remix
The title track kicks off the album in high spirits. It has a very catchy first line - "Do you wanna partner..." and soon after the electronically modulated opening voice, Shaan and Udit Narayan take over the proceedings quite effortlessly. Shaan shows right attitude and confidence as the senior partner (Salman Khan being the date doctor) while Udit Narayan is a natural for wannabe lover (Govinda). The remix version is even faster paced with some Latino beats added to good effect. Lyrics by Sanjay Chel is perfect for this kind of song. And I can't wait to watch Govinda dancing on this funtastic number.
You're My Love - Shaan, Shweta Pandit, Suzi Q; Remix
What's up with this husky voice doing the opening lines of songs a la Vishal Dadlani! It's setting up like a trend these days. Here Suzi Q does the R-n-B, rap and bhangra mix. And Sajid Wajid have used the "Meri Chhamak Chhallo Maan Bhi Jaa" tunes from Govinda-Urmila starrer Kunwara for "sona sona mera mahi sona sona" tunes, which in turn was a copy of the Turkish smash hit, 'Simarik' by Tarkan. Shaan and Shweta Pandit have tried their best to lift this, otherwise, mediocre khichdi song to some decent standard. The remix version may sound better to some.
Dupatta Tera Nau Rang Da - Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghoshal
One of the better songs of the album, "Dupatta Tera Nau Rang Da" has a HIT written all over it. On top of that you get to watch Govinda-Salman dancing with no inhibitions. What a joy! Sonu Nigam and Kunal Ganjwala are in full form with Shreya Ghoshal giving them good company. Sajid-Wajid have mixed Western and Indian music efficiently to give us a good dance number.

Soni De Nakhre - Wajid, Labh Janjua & Sneha Pant
Sung by Labh Janjua and Sneha Pant, "Soni De Nakhre" is more of a Punjabi pop number with some strange kudukku kudukku wordings. Nothing much to write about, I can only hope this song to look better with visuals.
Maria Maria - Sonu Nigam, Sajid, Sunidhi Chauhan
"Maria Maria" begins as a straight rip off from "O Maria" from Shah Rukh Khan's Josh. Anu Malik should sue Sajid-Wajid of lifting his original tune! Jokes apart, Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan have sung this one with full energy, which I am sure, would show up on screen.
Overall, I think more than the music it's actually Salman-Govinda magic which would do wonders for this album and movie. With some good dancing songs like the title track "Do U Wanna Partner" and "Dupatta Tera Nau Rang Da", Partner should be a good hearing. I believe Sajid-Wajid have dished out what they were asked to keeping the "fun" mood of the movie in mind.
Cassettes and CDs have been released by T-Series while the movie is slated to be released worldwide on July 20.
