Music Review: Awarapan

Emraan Hashmi is back with Bhatts' Vishesh Films and Mohit Suri again in Awarapan after Zeher and Kalyug and with Pritam Chakraborty after Gangster. They have always been associated with some quality music. Even Mohit Suri's last movie Woh Lamhe had great music. So, it comes as no surprise that Awarapan's soundtrack was awaited eagerly. While Awarapan does not have any path breaking music, it's still a decent one. There are four main songs with their remix versions - all composed actually by some Pakistani artists. They have only been arranged by Pritam for this movie. (UPDATE: You Can Listen to the music of the movie Here)
Toh Phir Aao - Mustafa Zahid, lounge version, remix
Mustafa Zahid sounds very similar to Mithoon and Atif Aslam in Toh Phir Aao. Although this is a very good song, one certainly gets a feeling of deja vu. Toh Phir Aao seems to be another addition in the lines of Woh Lamhe from Zeher, Aadat from Kalyug, Tere Bin from Bas Ek Pal and the most recent Zindagi from The Train. Nevertheless, I still like it. It has meaningful lyrics by Sayeed Quadri and appears thrice in the album - regular, remix (a good one!) by DJ Suketu and a lounge version. I believe you would start loving this song after a couple of replays.
Tera Mera Rishta - Mustafa Zahid, remix
Another song in the same mould! But I do not mind as it's again catchy and Mustafa Zahid sings quite well in his own Pakistani style composition. Towards the end of the albun, DJ Suketu does a decent job of remixing it in club style.
Mahiya - 1. Suzzane, 2. remix version by Annie
Originally composed and sung by Annie, this one features twice in the album - first sung by Suzzane and later Annie sings the remix version herself. It's quite peppy, which I am sure will turn out to be a good dance number once the complete video is out. This youthful number is written by Sayeed Quadri and Asif Ali Baig.
Maula Maula - Rafaqat Ali Khan
Maula Maula is composed and sung by Rafaquat Ali Khan in a very traditional Sufi style. Might not go too well with audience who have heard better Sufi songs. This is the weakest link in an otherwise above average album.
If there are some positives in Awarapan music, then there are some negatives as well. Toh Phir Aao, Tera Mera Rishta and Mahiya to some extent are good tracks. But Maula Maula is a let down. Moreover, with only 4 tracks (excluding remix and lounge versions), the appeal is limited. Overall, I would give it a two and a half stars rating.

Emran looks quite different in this film, kinda serious about his role. Should see how it spreads on screen.
