Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End

The wait got over Thursday night. The third Pirates movie opened in the theatres with enough anticipation to devour both Shrek and Spidey (or atleast I hope so). But the big question in most people's minds was how good is it really going to be?
In my anticipatory thoughts, if Gore Verbinski even made an average movie, his job was done. Actually his job was done after the first movie because he had created a franchise that would ring the cash registers no matter how good the next two movies were going to be. But inspite of this insurance I have to respect the film makers that they gave their audience an above average movie with enough action in it so that they could feel their money was worth spent. Yes, At World's End ,on an absolute scale is not that great of a movie, but it works and its an above average flick that is much better than the second one.
The movie works on a lot of different levels, it has good comedy, great action sequences and of course Jack Sparrow as the MVP (Most Valuable Player). If you read this blog often, you might have read the plot earlier, but in case you haven't click on that link and it'll give you the whole story. Ahead there might be some spoilers so if you are planning to watch the movie, read it at your own discretion.
I think story wise, the makers had to cover a lot and it would have been tough to fit it in one movie and still keep it interesting. But instead of keeping it simple what do they do? Add more complications and new characters and thus more reel. This was my biggest problem with the movie, it was long and a bit convoluted. I mean I was happy to hear that Chow Yun Fat was going to be part of the movie, but honestly the footage they gave to his character was completely useless and could've been easily avoided. Then that whole build up about Calypso turned out to be a dud.
On the positives, the movie is a visual masterpiece. Each action scene is plain awesome and the last one will have you glued to the screen and will leave you wanting for more. Johnny Depp plays his character with ease, although there were some instances of indulgence, yet I'll let that slip. Keira and Orlando were average and Geoffrey Rush does a great job once again as Barbossa. The other characters look scary, weird and sometimes funny and do their job basically.
Movie might not be as fun as the first Pirates movie, but it's still the most fun movie of all the summer blockbusters so far this year. For that I must laud the crew again and since it seemed that they've left the door open for a fourth one, I hope they learn from their mistakes from the second and third movie and make a truly great movie next time.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean was great, not too sure about the other two, tho the special effects were top notch... if they come out with a fourth will it maintain the quality of the first?
