Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala

Produced by Sanjay Gupta and Sanjay Dutt, Shootout At Lokhandwala boasts of a massive starcast comprising of almost half the industry - Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Arbaaz Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Tusshar Kapoor, Rohit Roy, Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza, Aarti Chhabria and Amrita Singh. It's directed by Apoorva Lakhia, who skillfully wasted resources in Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost and Ek Ajnabee. This movie looks no different. At least going by its music, whatever hopes I had, have been crushed.
There are three music directors - Anand Raaj Anand, Mika Singh and Biddu and four lyricists - Dev Kohli, Dr. Palash Sen, Mika Singh and Sanjay Gupta. Everything is in abundance. But the only songs who leave any mark whatsoever are Aakhri Alvida by Strings and Mere Yaar by Sunidhi Chauhan & Anand Raaj Anand.
Mere Yaar - Sunidhi Chauhan & Anand Raaj Anand
We have already seen promos of this item number picturized on Vivek Oberoi, his gang and Aarti Chhabria, who plays bar dancer Tarannum. Written by Dev Kohli this number is at best an average track. However, it looks good on screen and might go well with masses.
Aakhri Alvida - Strings, club mix
This rock number by Strings is easily the best track of the album and saves it from total disappointment. There is a club mix too, which is equally good. Probably filmed in the background, this song will come towards the end of the movie when Maya Dolas (Vivek Oberoi) and Dilip Bua (Tusshar Kapoor) get ready for the shootout with the cops (Sanjay Dutt and company).
Ganpat - Mika & Anchal, Rap version
Composed, written and sung by Mika! Should I say any more? Not worth writing.
Unke Nashe Mein - Sukhwinder Singh, Mika & Anand Raaj Anand, club mix
Another below average song in the album, the director would do better not to have it in the movie.
Live By The Gun - Biddu
Another below average song in the album - only this time it's completely in English.
Sone De Maa - Dr. Palash Sen
"Thak gaya hun maa, ab sone de..." Remember Amitabh rendering these lines in Deewar and Agneepath? Euphoria turns that into a song with Dr Palash Sen taking care of the vocals. "Sone de mujhe..." I am also tired of writing this review.
Wish there was better music in a movie coming from the makers of Kaante, Musafir and Zinda. No matter what was the fate of those movies at the box office, their music rocked! I will give one and a half stars - 1 for Aakhri Alvida and 0.5 for Mere Yaar.

Mere yaar video is good.
Background score
guys, there is this piece of music which keeps repeating throughout the film. it's more like a theme song for the gangsters and is plaed whenever we see the gang together on screen. could someone tell me the name of the song please
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
Hi,
i wanted to know what is the name of the song that is played in the movie, it is repeated alot and it was used after when vivek oberoi usually had killed some one, it was a sort of choir music and was played at different lengths in the movie, it was like one of those songs that had a tempo and was very captivating
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
Even i need the sound its' an English song that plays in the background the wording seem like "don't waste our time"
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
yeah.. i need the name of that song too, a gangster theme of some sort ... anyone knows???
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
Vijay, I don't see any purpose behind your review. Why did u write the review when u weren't really interested in writing it!
"Sone de ma : I am also tired of writing this review."
Your review should've been more constructive. When U write a review of an album, you talk about the quality of music and whether the songs are rich in poetry or not. Your review fails to give me an impression of music + lyrics.
Not a nice review. Or are U always the same in writing reviews?
Pls Note: Dr. Palash Sen's 'Sone De Maa' is highly appreciated. What kind of music do U prefer? A bimbo dancing into the tunes of a remix ?
Care to reply?
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
Shruti, it was not as if I was not interested in writing the review. Had that been the case I would have simply not written it. Quality of music is precisely what I wrote about. Fact of the matter is that the album should have that quality, which I felt, and still feel, was lacking in Shootout At Lokhandwala. And I totally respect your views. Your perspective could very well be different than mine.
Excuse me but a bimbo-remix kind of song can sometimes be better than a serious song sung by Dr Palash Sen. One just can't generalize it.
You are most welcome to write your own review on this site. I believe it's an open forum!
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
i am looking for that gangster background music as well. Any idea??
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala

Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
Vijay, Crossed paths by chance, again! So, what were we talking about? I see the same review for each song in the album. If a good song is in the album, don't we all like it? Similarly, I meant for 'Sone de Ma'.
I don't intend to comment anymore. But My ReView about the song 'Sone De Ma'? Well here it is :
The Song is different and good enough to be noticed by a common listener.
First, It is difficult to re-compose and re-write the song that has been released earlier by the same Band- Euphoria. 'Sone de Ma' was initially released in December 2002, Euphoria's Album- Gully [ Written By: Dr. Palash Sen/ Mr. Deekshant Sahrawat , Music: Dr. Palash Sen/ Mr. Arjun Sen] The song was a hit amongst Euphoria fans but I'm sure [except Euphoria Fans] no one really listened to the song [Because people generally listen to the songs that are famous]. So, how would the audience react? How would the fans react to this new 'SDM' who've liked the previous 'SDM'? I'm sure, like every other musician, he, too, might have thought about the reaction of his fans before re-writing/composing the song. Or he might not have thought about it since the music and lyrics are so good! And I personally I think Dr. Sen has done a great job in re-writing/composing the song.
Second, the music is similar, a li'l different than the previous 'SDM'. The song that churns out your emotions for your Mother. The song that speaks about a Man who's tired of fighting the battles that may have come in his life and now wants to Rest In Peace. The song that shouts out for 'Ma'.
Third, It's hard to sustain a note in any given song but Dr. Sen has the ability to hold the note for maybe 12-15 seconds. Now that's really difficult unless you're a trained singer. The song begins with "Ho Ma............" U can feel the energy in this line. And right from then on you can feel the warmth in the song that later gets slightly touchy, but oh well! A romantic song is loved by many, so why not this one?
Backing Vocals "Hmmm...hmmm...hmmm..." can be heard throughout, keeps the flow of music (i.e. filling the gaps in the song) We don't get to hear such backing vocals these days. That's another good point about it. The Bridge [which you generally call a connector between Verse/Paragraph and Chorus] or let's make it simple, here, is Instrumental. Sorry for being Technical. Oh-So-Non-Filmy-Yet-So-Appropriate-For-A-Film.
Fourth, The Lyrics. The entire song is beautifully written. Every line has a meaning to it, certainly has a lot to say. Not a single line can be missed and well, that might make the song handicapped. "...Lori koi fir se suna, chalte chalte main thak gaya....." "...aakhri angadaai, neend mujhe aayi, dheere dheere dhundhla sama...hasste hasste ab kar vidaa..." & Verse/Paragraph - These lines are wonderful!!
Listen to it! If You have? Listen to it once again. Over and over again. You'll love the song. Guaranteed! Atleast, 50% of it, if not 100%
That's about it :)
___
Vijay, had U written 1/100th of this about the song, my review wouldn't have been lengthy.
Peace!
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
Shruti, I appreciate your views! Thanks for writing your review. Will need to revisit the song.
Yes, total peace!

Re: Background score
Hey Siddharth!! I think that background score was by the Indian rock-fusion band "Indian Ocean". I seriously agree with you that it was the best piece of music throughout the entire movie. Sadly, there is no mention of them in any of the official reviews on the Internet.
Re: Music Review: Shootout At Lokhandwala
