Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

Adnan Sami's much awaited album Kisi Din has been out for a few days. Our Sonam@Moviewalah has already given you some eye candy from the title video. The album streams enough of its melted candy into your ear as well.

Considering that this is his return after 3 years, much is expected from this score. The one thing that strikes you in this album is the discrete composition in each song and how each song accentuates a single instrument, much like Yanni's compositions. Stacked with a few front runners, the album might just make it. The album is paced at mid level and is not a dance floor buster. We will leave the other composers to handle that. Adnan Sami has always been quality music and easy listening and he does not fail with this one either.

Teri yaad

Avanne, a new model babe graced the video of this song. A top spinner right there with a piano base. I have heard this song a couple of years ago and I cannot remember if, it was just that it was released as a solo that time or if, it was part of another album as well. Readers, if you do have some trivia about the release of this song, please do write in the comments. The remix version is quite peppy as well.

Kisi Din
Title track of the album. A brilliant song and is every inch of a love ghazal as it can be. Sports Saxophone leads, Sitar strings, Sexy Yana Gupta and ofcourse Sami himself and is superbly snazzy. Sami trails ands trods lazily through the song and when the song ends, it does take few good moments for the listener to jog back from his world.
Don't ask me about the remix.

Baarish
Beats sped up a tad, Sami drizzles all over you, like spring rain. I remembered an old sher.

"Woh toh aur baat thi ki barsaat ho gayi, varna mein ambar bankar tumhare aangan mein utarnewala tha".

The unplugged version is more passionate and presents lovely guitar leads. You cannot help feel the deja-vu from one of his earlier songs 'Badal woh aaye' from Yuva. You could almost sing that song with these beats pretty well. Food for MXPLAY.

Koi rehta hai
While running at the same tempo, Koi rehta hai brings you into the classical aura. So far so good but, why are we rapping in here? 'Twas all out of place. The english lyrics and the song make a poor mixing. It is almost as if, Adnan composed the original track , sang it and left it to the rookies to mix the rest.

Salaam walekum

This is what Adnan does, at his best - bring the complete 'Ooomph' from his voice. He modulates teasing, passion, despair so well that, gals, I won't blame you if, you leave dil at every  beat of this song. This is as fast as the album gets, sans the remix versions.

Jharonkhe
A bit of hangover from Koi Rehta hai, albeit a smooth love song. I had to laugh at this one though "I wanna smell your perfume everywhere". The same in Urdu would have sounded beautiful but, the translation lyrics called in for a laughter.

Waqt
One of Adnan's signature pining ballads. Since the music is all happy feet, for someone who does not understand the lyrics, this might sound like a peppy song. Listening to arabic music has put in me in such a state several times. A folkish interlude from the song was the only piece which stayed memorable. Rest of the score is very mediocre.

Dekho janeman
Breathe in middle eastern accent and Dekho Janeman gets you back to true Peppy feet. Got any belly dancing moves? Swing 'em right here. Although, the song does not have the 'grow on you' potential, once in a while listening is not all that impossible to take.

Sargoshi
A mellow/sad song that brings back the classical leads to the song. A downer albeit, as you start getting overwhelmed by the similar tunes/lyrics you have heard many times before. Sami does quite well with his vocals. He is a brilliant singer and it is hard to spot any vocal challenges in him.

Ae khuda
It is Santoor time. Ae Khuda is another mellow track and is a one time list.

Sami never fails you. Scores my ***1/2  for Teri Yaad and Kisi Din and *** overall.

The title track 'Kisi Din'  might soon be on the top charts for a few weeks.

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

Any cultural activity be it arts, music ,film or sports, it is not independent of their nationality.

South African Cricket team was banned to play cricket for many years because of the racist allegations going on in their country.

England and Australia cricket team refuses to play in Zimbabwe for political reasons about Robert Mugambe's nationalistic drive, forcing the white land owners in Zimbabwe to surrender their land to the nation.

Similarly should India ban all cultural exchange with Pakistan until cross border terrorism ends? Because you cannot have sports and music , when your soldiers are dying in Kargil, when your parliament is attacked, when Mumbai local is bombed.

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

Last time I checked Adnan Sami was a Canadian not a Pakistani.....

people banned south african cricket for 20 years and when they came back they had an All White team so I am sure the ban really worked.....its because of retards and haters like you that no problems will ever get solved....we've been fighting or rather pretending to fight with our neighbours for last 60 years and will continue to do that for another 100 years because if we don't then there is no political agenda for these politicians to get elected.....so if you think by banning the music the problem will be solved.....then you belong on hatepakistan.blogspot.com not on a movie blog.....

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

All the relatives and near dear ones of the mumbai local train bomb blast victims should compulsorily be made to listen Adnan Sami.

They will feel very elated and relaxed.

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

Now what has bomb blasts to do with Adnan Sami? Grow up!

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

so you are saying Adnan Sami was behind the blasts? am I missing something here....

just because a Korean killed 35 people in Virginia Tech.....I think all Koreans should be put behind bars right? Are you writing these comments from a mental asylum....Im just curious....I shouldn't probably respond to these or soon I'll have a cell next to you.....

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

Rajat I had no idea Adnan Sami is now a Canadian.

IF he is a Canadian Citizen then it is alright

I have nothing against the music of Adnan Sami, it is just that previously he was a Pakistani national.

And we all know that Pakistan has banned Indian films, music and even satellite channels. The last time they allowed a Hindi film was Mughal-E-Azam, because it was about Islamic rule in India, which they secretly aspire even today, why didn't they allowed a Bhakt Prahlad, or a Sant Tukaram to screen in Pakistan?

When your neighbor constantly criticizes you, you dont go and be cosy with him, you will stage a protest. That is what I am doing.

you said something about hatepakistan.blogspot.com, I have not seen that site nor do I wish to see.
I have nothing against Pakistan also. It is just that they must forget enmity, they must also allow our music and films. Is it unfair to wish equal status?

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

Pakistani or Canadian !!!! How does that matter ?

Obviously no one listens to music when there is a bomb blast or any calamity...
We are talking about music.. Kisi Din certainly rocks.. Adnan has really worked on it..
Appreciate the music and the work....

If they didnt allow Tukaram .... You think we should also do the same mistake !!!!
Grow up !!!!!!

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

anyonw knows which song goes like--- " shayad yahi hai pyar...", very nice song but i dunno the title.

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

I think you are talking about Adnan Sami's "Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si..." from Life In A Metro. Yes, that's a beautiful song.

Re: Pop Album Review: Kisi Din (Adnan Sami)

the song u are asking for is from the movie LUCKY starring salman khan and sneha ullal. the title of the the song is "shayad yehi tho pyar hai." The starting of the song goes like this.... - " Ek ajnabee sa.. ehsaas dil ko sataaye.... shayad yehi tho pyar hai..."
