Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Yash Raj Films is back yet again with “Ta Ra Rum Pum” but this time not with a bang but with a feeling of disappointment. Over the years, they have possessed a huge fan following for their nice locations, exquisite framing, music, etc but one department in which they are still lagging is the SCRIPT. The same problem arises with “Ta Ra Rum Pum”. Inspite of a good treatment, the movie fails to hold the audiences because of a fragile script.

The movie tells the story of a man, his family and how they gain control over the hindrances that life puts in their way. Rajveer Singh (Saif Ali Khan) works at the New York Speedway as a pit-crew worker for a racing team but has an immense passion for driving. His talent is soon noticed by his manager, Harry (Javed Jaffrey). He also accidentally meets Radhika (Rani Mukherjee), a music student and falls for her. Rajveer joins a failing team “Speeding Saddles” and succeeds in gaining its lost repute and transforms from “Rajveer” to “RV”. Meanwhile, both RV and Radhika get married and are blessed with two kids, Princess (Angelina Idnani) and Champ (Ali Haji).

But one fine day as a result of an accident, RV gets hospitalized for a few months & when he tries to make a comeback after a year, he finds that he has been mentally affected by the accident and has lost some edge. After a string of failures, his life takes a turn after his house gets auctioned and his family struggles to survive a life they are not used to but face the adverse circumstances cheerfully. But one incident compels RV to return to the race-track and to win back his lost possessions.

The pace of the movie becomes quite slow at times. Some of the comic scenes could have been avoided. Javed Jaffrey’s intense scenes are good but fails to attract through his comedy. It looks that comedy has been forced upon. Rani Mukherjee was as usual. Although she appears in a new baby-doll image but when it comes to emotional scenes, she has nothing new to deliver. The only saving grace is Saif Ali Khan who carries the film on his shoulders. Also the kids, Angelina and Haji, were impressive. Even Victor Banerjee, as Rani’s father, makes his presence felt.

Some of the scenes like the entire family taking a bath at a public fountain and Saif driving recklessly through the city streets look quite unreal. And sometimes viewers could just make out as to what will happen next. Even the music is not extra ordinary.

Director Siddharth Anand targets his film at the family audiences and will satiate the appetite of people seeking family entertainment. But he still needs to learn a lot.. !!!

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Agnipankh, if you notice, all the posts are different although related to the same movie Ta Ra Rum Pum. I hope you understand the difference between First Look, Music Review, Plot Outline and Movie Review.

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Vijay, going by his comments otherwise on the site, do you think he understands anything at all?
LOL

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Yes I do not understand, bcos I am not paid by producers to say anything they want, to spread lies on this site.

I am the only one to say a spade a spade.

I am the only one to give frank opinions

I am the only one not under any influence to post my thoughts, monetary or emotional.

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Agni bhaiya don't stop doing that.....whatever you say is great entertainment.....I love the fact that you call a spade a spade in a post which is about apples.....completely unrelated and that talent comes from practice

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Ta Ra Rum Pum is the biggest flop of yashraj ever. Poor story and foolosh screenplay. Dont they know that we dont need to ask for address in NY, GPRS is smart enough to drop you to that destination. In just 4 years of marriage they have fully grown up kids. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL YASHRAJ, WE INDIANS ARE NOT FOOLS. TRIED TO CREATE EMOTIONAL SCENES OUT OF NOT ISSUE. anywayz, I know some people will watch it anyway. But watch it at you own risk.. hahaha..

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

I don't know why YashRaj makes "stupid" movies. 10 years down the road, I will throw out all the 1 dollar bollywoood movies I bought, including Ta Ra Rum Pum, Dhoom, and especially Faana. Yash, Amir Khan and other "dreamers" will one day get old and they will see that what they projected on screen is just light being projected on a white screen and a "cookie" script was written by an indian man who thinks he understands cinema. Please all of you bollywood merchants, get old and turn 80 years old and look back and realize, filmaking in india is a BIG JOKE.

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Man i just saw this movie today, i was like a gazillion hours long. I felt like i went to see a nascar race. What was that, and that annoying picture perfect family with that no so sweet girl OH GOD if i could just KICK the >>>>>>> out of her. What was that movie i felt like it was never gonna end. The songs were rubbish i wasted 300000 hours on this movie what a waste of time. Clearly this was another yash raj monopoly what do these guys think they are doing. First FLOP 2 and then this. We Indians need to speak up and let our voices be heard. Hopefully something will wake these directors, producers etc etc up. And after veer zara there seems to be a trend of giving hero's some SIKH'S name, why add the singh at the end. What are they trying to prove. Man i can go on and on i dont mean to be biased at all but come on, we have had it with veer singh, this singh, that singh and now again. YASH RAJ as silly and pointless neal and nicky was (which i didnt bother myself to see) you have continued to keep up the good work. GOOD JOB Guys and please tell your beloved son to quit the movie business and join a professional salon. That powder is his only way to stardom.

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

You guys all clearly don't know what makes a good movie or not and judge it on pointless things. The point of the story was how love can get a family through anything...whether it be good times or bad. It's a heartfilled movie with a very valuable lesson. With hope, self determination and faith you can be your own hero and love guides your inner strengths to work at their ultimate best. As well as, plan for the future but live for the day! The story comes across beautifully as you watch just how far a mother and father will go for their children and how their love for one another drives them to what seems impossible. To add onto that amazing idea, the children show how a parent's love is valued as they learn the truth about them being poor, and try to assist their parents. This movie also shows how a passion can outwin fear, this is shown by the use of the races. To top it off, amazing songs and touching scenes as well as funny scenes were used to keep the viewer engaged. All in all, Yash Raj amazing film...some people just get jealous, don't know how to critiq and expect too much...I'd like them to see them make a movie haha. Well done!

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

opps i mean yash chopra lol

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

@anonymous "how far mother and father will go for their children" no doubt about that.....but that message can be conveyed in a number of ways.....why make us sit through the antics of some stupid husband and wife who blew away millions of dollars in a year and then tell their children they are in a reality show....!! how about getting a real job and before that saving some money? when you see people like that on screen the only lesson I learnt was that they deserved it.....

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Its always larger then life for Yash Raj, never touching humane issues.., In their movies people always talk about millions and billions of Dollars. They have never seen life of a poor and still try to portray Hero as poor., What a Joke... This movie is precariously slow particularly in second half it seemed like this movie will never end. And about naming their charactors, it has to sound royal you see...??
Can anybody tell me how one can race within two days flat...? You get yourself registered, you do practice you race...!! Sounds impractical and insane. Director thinks that people are fool and will listen whatever they'll show. I didn't understand why there has to be a friend of Rani when she's just going to be shown in couple of scenes barely 5-10 minutes..??
This is Worst movie after Fanaa that yashraj manufactured...
Bad Product, by all means...

Mujhe mere paise wapas de do thakoor...!!!

Re: Movie Review: Ta Ra Rum Pum

Are u kidding ? The screenplay sucks. They play exciting music in emotional scene(there is hardly any emotional scene ). I mean they laugh during their misery. Wat sort of movies does that ? Even the kids won't like it. The worst movie bollywood ever made.

The only movie I can relate with this is Epic Movie(if haven't seen it don't bother watching it). And the movie is absolutely predictable in every scenes. Don't waste time on such thing which is not even worth wasting.

Its like the Scary Movie of a movie based on Car Racing. In that case congrats Yash Raj for making first Scary movie of Bollywood.
