Music Review: The Train

Emraan Hashmi has an enviable track record as far as music of his movies are concerned. Murder, Zeher, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Kalyug, Aksar, Gangster - all had superhit songs. He is back with two back to back music releases - first Good Boy Bad Boy and now The Train. While Good Boy Bad Boy disappointed big time, here is some good news for the fans of this serial kisser. Composed by Mithoon (the man behind Tere Bin from Bas Ek Pal and Maula Mere from Anwar), The Train is an above average compilation of some good numbers. The movie is directed by director-duo Hasnain Hyderabadwala and Raksha Mistry, who last gave us The Killer, a pathetic copy of Collateral. Hope they fare better this time. Lyrics are written by Sayeed Quadri.

Woh Ajnabee - Mithoon & Shilpa Rao, club mix by Akbar Sami
The album begins with highly catchy foot-tapping number Woh Ajnabee. Sung by Mithoon and Shilpa Rao, this one is a sure shot winner right from the word go. Shilpa Rao is the same singer who gave us brilliant Javeda Zindagi in Anwar. Club mix by Akbar Sami is all the more impressive. Mithoon sounds a bit similar to Shailendra Singh (Rishi Kapoor's voice in so many movies including Bobby) and is very likeable.

Beete Lamhein - K.K., lounge mix by Goldeyy

Extremely well written by Sayeed Quadri, this is a typical K.K. song. K.K. masters this kind of genre. He sings to his strength in this slow paced track with beautiful lyrics. Sound of guitar and light orchestra take this song to a different level altogether. As a bonus, you also get a lounge mix by Goldeyy.

Mausam - Mithoon, club mix by Akbar Sami, progressive mix by Goldeyy
Mausam, by Mithoon, seems to be an extension of K.K.'s Beete Lamhein. Straightaway fits into the mood set by the previous number, it also has two remix versions - club mix by Akbar Sami and progressive mix by Goldeyy. Zindagi ne zindagi bhar ghum diye... I just hope the director-duo do not spoil the magic of these numbers in the movie with poor direction and screenplay.

Teri Tamanna - K.K. & Zubeen, club mix by Akbar Sami, euro mix by Goldeyy

K.K and Zubeen combine together to give us a super fast dance track, and with Emraan Hashmi on screen, this will certainly climb up the charts once the video is aired. Remix versions are equally entertaining.

The Train (an Inspiraiton) - Shaan
Shaan and Sayeed Quadri get philosophical in the supposedly title track but fail to deliver anything close to a chart-buster track. Wish they had come with something like 'Gaadi bula rahi hai...' from Dost. But I guess that is asking for too much. Not a bad number totally but it does not impress much.

Within two days of its release, the music of The Train has already climbed to Top 5 of all music charts. Going by that I can safely say 'The Train' is en route to be a hat-trick of successes for Mithoon after Bas Ek Pal and Anwar. It's quite a coincidence that we are having two movies based on trains - Ek Chalis Ki Last Local and The Train - simultaneoulsy. But who's complaining - music of both these movies is on right track!
