Movie Review: Salaam-E-Ishq

I, anyway, do not have high expectations from this labor of love. and your review has made me think whether i should go through 3.5 hr pain in theater or not. better i'll watch it on dvd later. i'll go n watch Guru again instead :)

Btw, has the movie released? it's only Thursday here (in US) and even in India it's only Thurs night. So, how come?

time diff is ok. but it still got released on thursday. that was my question. but anyway i now figure it out that it got released on thurs (25 jan) as fri (26 jan) is holiday there. but i dun think even an extra day would be beneficial going by its review.

An entertaining 2 hours sandwiched between a clumsy beginning (45 minutes) and a boring end (another 45 minutes). It is worth watching once when you are in a mood for a light movie. But you don't need to rush to the theaters. Excellent acting and good direction. I especially enjoyed the parody on everything our "masala" movies stand for.  Still wondering what the end product would be if it was 1.5 hours shorter. One observation: Mostly multistarrers work only if you have Amitabh/Abhishek Bachchan in that.
Btw, is this one that bad a movie? I was planning to watch it tomorrow.

the movie isnt  worth of negative reviews as it is made out to be...... i just had a viewing of the movie ... and i am kind of surprised to see the reviews.

pros:

1. much depth than kal ho na ho.
2. depicts various stages of love( before marriage, after marriage, lust, tragedy ect..) all with considerable amount of realism and romantic overtures.
3. a detailed worked out script.
4. uncanny humour in tragic scenes....
5. worth for those who have gone through the ups and downs of  a relationship  over a long time and are still in that realtionship. this movie would definetely make them smile.
6. targets all audeinces. ( youth, middle aged, children, NRI).
7. govinda, akshaye khanna, anil kapoor, vidya balan and  shankar-ehsaan-loy

CONS.
1 almost 3:30 hrs run time!
2. salman khan's effortless job and priyanka's overacting at times.
3. too melodramatic in the later half
4.  i 'stephanie's' character. could have been improved, govinda's love interest
5. salman's character was supposed to anchor the theme of the film , but the job is actually done by govinda and john abraham
6. saif ali khan would have been a better choce than akshaye

 but all said, it is extremely difficult to weave 6 stories in one, and the director that way has done a good job. DEFINETELY WORTH  A WATCH. but in my opinion,if you have seen  'Love actually', and liked it enough ,then this movie may not be disapointing either

Love Actually was one of the most boring chick flicks I've ever seen in my life.....so even if you pimp it out with some songs it will still suck.....

 
Saif instead of Akshaye... then Saif may repeat himself as he did in Hum Tum... afraid of marraige...
 
But Akshaye , Govinda and Vidya were still the saving grace of the movie... 
 
Three and half hours could be bearable but its boring too...
 
Juhi and Anil did good job... but bad job by editor took their charm away... they became boring by the end...
 
Govinda was too loud in the end... i mean he doesn't have to shout all the time to prove his point....
 
Salman and Priyanka were a dissappointment...
 
Sohail and Isha better not to talk about... Sohail was behaving like a dog...
 
The film could be better... bad editing i must say...
 
The film hardly makes you feel Love... the diretor got so busy completing his stories he forgot to film the core part of the movie that's Love...

Do not go by all the negative comments about this movie.  Although it is not at the level of Babel, it is a good movie.  Maybe long but has a good story.  all actors have done the job

I saw this movie yesterday night, or should i say today morning. it never looked to end. started at 11:30PM and went on and on till 3:30AM. worst part - because of the exxtra long movie, they did not show any trailers. now that's bad.

well, enough has already been written about Salaam-e-Ishq. It's getting more attention than it actually deserves - primarily because of its super star cast and music. movie is at best - good in parts. Some of the scenes are really good, like Salaman's scene with Priyanka when he reveals how he knows so much about fav color, sweets, place, etc.; John's scene at his parents' house first and Akshaye's house later; Govinda's all scenes; Anil Kapoor's scene at discotheque; and the last scene where Shannon blasts in Hindi. But the best scene has to be when Govinda says, after a very emotional scene: "Shall we?". Hahaha, he learns English by the end of the movie :)

Salman Khan is the most under rated actor. but just look at his screen presence. in a movie full of stars, he was the super star. priyanka should stop thinking that she is a good actress. she overacts and irritates. akshaye khanna is a natural. just watch his expressions. too good! ayesha takia had nothing to do. govinda was funny as ever. he really brought smile and i must say he's back now. shannon was good, funny at times. john abraham, in the most emotional role of his career, is a big surprise. i never thought he could act so well. vidya balan, we all know, can act. but why did the director show her in the same dress throughout. she is so beautiful that she looked good even though nikhil advani tried his best to make her look ugly. anil kapoor was ok. juhi chawla bored. anjana sukhani was seductress to the hilt. she was very sexy. i could see some men looking with their mouth wide open at Babuji dheere chalna song. sohail khan and isha had barely 3-4 scenes, which should have been edited from the movie. they are cheap.

now coming back to the movie, i think why would anyone want to see 6 different stories in one movie, if they are not connected well. thats the major drawback of salaam-e-ishq. some of the stories drag and bore u to death. i would say, it's a crime to waste such a golden opportunity when you have some of the biggest stars and actors in your movie. Nikhil Advani should take a long break now. but at least he is better than his mentor Karan Johar, who i bet would have stretched only one story itself to 3:30 hrs.

give salaam-e-ishq a miss. wtach guru twice in that much time :)

Just now wasted 3.5 hours and $ 9.5 on this crap film.
Not sure what director wanted to say.
Instead of wasting film reels on 6 stories which are not at all related,
he could have made a good film just on Govinda's story.
I really liked Govinda's role.
Thats the only good part of this movie.

Movie is Awesome !! an entertaining flick after a long time....must watch once...miss it at ur own risk !! To hell with all the bad review writers...make ur own judgement

Interesting concept.  Great acting on the parts of John, Akshaye, Anil, Juhi, Shannon, Govinda, and Vidya.  Priyanka wasn't bad.  Ayesha had very little to do, but looked good.  Overall, a good, popcorn flick.  Just a bit too long. My brother and I called it the never-ending-movie.  But worth a watch, for sure!!  Even Salman wasn't as annoying as he usually is.  Probably  because we only really get a small dose of him. 

I agree with all the negative reviews out there for Salaam-E-Ishq. This movie has absolutely no redeeming quality whether it is acting, storyline or direction. Just a tremendously obscene way to spend a few million dollars on a poorly conceived tribute to love. Yes there are good performances and a few bright spots (like most bad movies do have) but you could pick a movie off TV Guide at random and get better entertainment for free.

It's not at all a tribute to love, its a tribute to mediocrity in hindi cinema. i have said this earlier, lemme say again - ban all Karan Johar clones from making shit movies.

one more thing - priyanka chopra should play mute girl - the way kareena played in chup chup ke

dhaage bhar ka phark hota hai bewakoof aur c*****e mein!!! same for comedy n vulgarity.
sohail khan - isha koppikar track was vulgar n cheap.

wow I really feel left out......I still haven't seen this movie.....does anyone wanna go with me? I'll buy you popcorn.....if you don't like em, feel free to throw at the monkeys on the screen....

One of the worst movies to start the year maybe.......I dont undersatnd where the hindi industry directors are going. No logic itself in most of the movies. What the heck was it. No direction. Pathetic acting. No concept only. Such type of films shouldn't be released in the first place. People can use 3 hours of thier precious life for some personal development instead.

I HAVE READ MANY OF THE REVIEWS ON THIS PAGE, AND ALMOST ALL OF THEM SAY THAT MY FILM SALAAM-E-ISHQ WAS NOT A GOOD FILM.  MAYBE YOU GUYS SHOULD WATCH IT OVER, BECAUSE THIS FILM IS LIKE ME, IT ROCKS BIG TIME.  AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIKED IT, I PROMISE THAT MY NEST TWO RELEASES PARTNER AND GOD TUSSI GREAT HO WILL BE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN SEI.   

Worst Movie ever i have seen in my life.Please don't watch this movie and don't waste your precious time instead have a good sleep at your home.

i havent watched SEI yet but by watching the trailers it looks like a good  movie. i think the time is ok becauuse there is 6 stories tell.
