DDLJ is trash!!!

What nonsense? DDLJ is a masterpiece. I like it even now. You look very confused. First you say SRK is legend and the next moment you say he's crap. WTF???

DDLJ is not trash but I hear ya and where you are coming from. Yes, Shah Rukh has repeated himself to death and looks like parody of himself now just like Rajesh Khanna, Manoj Kumar and Dev Anand in their later years. He should reinvent himself the way he did in Chak De. He should stop working with shit directors like Farah Khan and his gay friend Karan Johar. Rather he should work with new talents like Anurag Kashyap, whose No Smoking was brilliant (I liked it even more than his Black Friday), Rakeysh Mehra, Imtiaz Ali whose Jab We Met was terrific just as his Socha Na Tha, Nagesh Kukunoor and the likes.

I hear you man.....but here's the thing there are two kinds of people in the film world....one who are there for the love of art....and others who are there to make money.....well there is a third kind which we call agents who are there to make money off of the first two kinds......SRK and Aamir differ in that aspect and honestly I don't have problems with either......I think SRK has never come out and said that he's the greatest actor out there......he knows that Indian public likes to see the same shit in a different wrapper so he gives them the same shit in different wrapper and each time more and more people watch it......he's done a lot of different movies....but the truth is if he's in the industry to make money.....he'll do more of what gets him the cash......he's like a smart entrepreneur, he's invented a killer product and he keeps selling that and people keep buying it......so what's trashy about that? Are you disappointed that he could've been a legend and he turned to be a money hungry guy? well then you just need to set your expectations right.....

on a similar note do you think Mithun is a legend? he deserves a mention among "acting" legends because the guy has won 3 something national awards and then towards the end of his career made some really god awful movies just for making money.....the way I look at it is that whatever these actors have accomplished can't be tarnished because they come in movies that you don't like.....or haven't worked through their careers as you as a fan wanted them to.....its their friggin life.....all you can do is stop expecting and look out for the next legend in the making......there is no switching cost

DDLJ is not only abt shahrukh khan. I'll watch it again and again for many other factors - Kajol, beautiful songs, complete entertainment....

All he did was overact throughout the film he was annoying most of the time. If anybody deserved an award that year it was clearly amir khan for rangeela. he did a wow job in that film. That is why after that year amir gave up. He knew how biased these stupid awards are. Then next year just because raja hindustani was the biggest hit of the year filmfare gave him an award for best actor (ha ha ha). i'm a huge SRK fan, so i probably wont admit that DDLJ is trash. But what i will admit that many movies after that upto even maybe OSO are trash. In movies like KKHT, K3G, OSO he repeats himslf as the chocolate boy cum sweetheart hero lover boy. There isnt anything new about him.

DDLJ on the other hand isnt. It marked the start of a phase where he started repeating himself. How can u say he is imitating himself in the movie when he started imitating himself after that movie. And then again, when people loved him for the role and his specific acting, why change it? Amithabh did similar roles as the angry young man didnt he?

Lets not judge SRK only because he possibly repeats. Look at movies where he has done different roles. A cynical character in KANK, an NRI in Swades, and his career best in Chak De.

As much as we'd like it...nothing's black and gray. Shahrukh may seem lik ea powerful person, he's actually tied down to a lot of people. He's a product. If he's lucky he gets a film or two like Swades and Chak De! India where he can honestly act for himself...and not to make his producers money. Repeating yourself and not being able to stop are two different things. Shahrukh repeats himself for the money of the producers and switches gears when he needs to feel like an artist. and beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder...it isn't what he projects thats beautiful, its how you see it that is beautiful. To you its not beautiful, but to many its a masterpiece and every bit of it - when he plays "Hochi kochi" with his father, when he wakes up in his pool late for the trip and tries to act cool and when he turns his head sideways and says, "Main nahin aaoonga".

Srikant, the flaw is not in DDLJ. I dont think Rohan is saying that DDLJ is trash. He is saying that SRK has repeated his acts of DDLJ in so many other movies that DDLJ looks like trash when u watch it now.

A very well written article. I had the same feelings when I watched DDLJ again a couple of years back, I ended up finding so many faults and couldn't really sit through the entire movie. But when I first saw it I was in love with SRK, anything he did was good even if that meant seeing the same 'Rahul' in every movie.
It is a shame that SRK got too insecure at some point and stopped experimenting, I suppose when you have so much adulation you don't want it to end esp when u know somethings going to work just fine. Every time he experiments with a Paheli or Swadesh, they don't work for him at ox office and to make sure he doesn't loose his top spot, he comes back and does his routine and the crowds love him...I suppose that's called Showiz. Not my cup of tea but it works for people in his world so whatever, who cares really.....

SRK in DDLJ is very good and that is EXACTLY how Adi wanted him to be. Yes, I do agree that he acted similar to Raj in many other movies, but that is how those directors wanted him to act. Asutosh wanted him to act differently in Swades and He DID. Shimit wanted him to act differently in Chak De, he excelled in that role...

Though the subject of your article may hold some water.. the title you have chosen is extremely callous.
DDLJ is not trash. Period. Say what you want about SRK's acting, but do not extrapolate that into the entire film. As someone has said here already, DDLJ is not only about SRK. It is about a whole lot of other things that you may not have perceived or that may not have appealed to your sensibilities. In any case, a clearly biased, misleading and carelessly chosen title like "DDLJ is trash" is unwarranted for. Free speech is one thing, but so is respect.

I request that you please change the title to something else. Among other things, it was immensely disappointing to see that this article is the first result when "DDLJ" is Googled.

It's the writer's opinion and the fact that it hurts your sensibilities doesn't do much to change his opinion.....its like buying a product....if the customer didn't like it - he didn't like it....there are no two ways about it just because the other person is emotionally involved with it.....
