How can you say that "Akshaye Khanna went a bit over the top in few scenes - Gandhi, My Father". Well, I don't agree with you...In fact, Akshaye Khanna was completely natural as Harilal, as if he was the real Harilal Gandhi in this film. I forgot that he was the Akshaye Khanna...since he played the character of Harilal so well with such great understanding and maturity...It is his outstanding and a lifetime performance. What do you mean by "over the top" especially about Akshaye Khanna in Gandhi, My Father?! I think it's Amitabh Bachchan who was a bit over the top in Cheeni Kum and Eklavya. And, even Abhishek Bachchan who was totally over the top in Guru! Don't you think so? Strange!

As for Akshay Kumar, yeah...he deserves to be nominated for the best actor in Namastey London. However, even Shahid Kapoor deserves the nomination for his simple performance in Jab We Met. So, I think that both Akshay Kumar and Shahid Kapoor deserve the nomination.

The Winner - Shah Rukh Khan is the best choice to win the best actor for Chak De India and no one else! And, Akshaye Khanna should win the Special & Best performance award! Or, he can win the Special Recognization Award for Gandhi, My Father!

And yes, even I think that Akshaye Khanna was very funny in Salaam-E-Ishq. He should have been nominated for his exceptional performance as Shiven who didn't want to become "Gia Ka Pia"! It's a rare comedy and Akshaye Khanna was the best thing in Salaam-E-Ishq and the rarest comedian! He should have been nominated for best comic actor and win the award too!

For the Most Promising Newcomer (Female)
How come that they didn't mention Urvashi Sharma in Abbas Mustan's Naqaab?!
Well, according to my opinion, I think that Sonam Kapoor (Saawariya), Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om)and Urvashi Sharma (Naqaab) should be nominated as the top three - best female newcomer! And the winner should go definitely to Sonam Kapoor for her simple performance in Saawariya! She was completely natural and also she was not being self-conscious in front of the camera. That's the different nuance about her acting! Whereas Deepika Padukone, she had the best debut with Om Shanti Om and longer role but she lacked originality as compared to Sonam Kapoor in Saawariya! And, she was a bit lousy in a song sequence! So, it's Sonam Kapoor who should win for Saawariya!

For the Most Promising Newcomer (Male)
Well, it's too hard to choose between Ranbir Kapoor – Saawariya and Neil Nitin Mukesh – Johnny Gaddaar! I think both of them should win the award like Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra did!

@ Anonymous, well I have not seen Gandhi My Father but I can say that Akshaye Khanna is a bit over-rated. He thinks by remaining subdued, under playing, making faces and speaking in a volume which anyone can hardly hear he is doing good acting. But I do not agree. He's just an ok actor.

Amitabh was too good in Cheeni Kum. If you are saying he was over the top, it's useless talking to you. And Abhishek was also not over the top in Guru. He was perfect.

I do agree with you on Shahid Kapoor and Akshay Kumar though. Yes they deserve nomination for Jab We Met and Namastey London.

Again, in Salaam-e-Ishq, Akshaye Khanna was too irritating although not to the same degree as Priyanka Chopra. You need to go and get some checkup if you are saying he was the best....he was no where close to Govinda, who was the only good thing in that senseless movie.

Anonymous i already wrote in my post that it was my personal opinion no gudge against any one though he was really good in the scenes where he was serious but the light scenes and some of post interval scenes went a bit over the top but once again its my personal opinion it is what i felt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i agree with you that he was one of the best thing in salaam-e-ishq and tht SRK is the best choice though i dont agree with ur comment tht Ab and Ab baby went over the top in their respective nominations as per Shahid is concerned well we can hav a max of 5 nominations rite???? so i felt Akshay scored ahead of Shahid.................... I know my choice for best debut (female) must have been a disagreeing point for cinema experts and many more but one thing is sure tht Deepika oozes with star material where Sonam lies and I also know that if you strictly talk about acting then yes Sonam Scores over Deepika but there is something in Deepika which made my decision to be inclined towards her and i agree this choice may be due to my favouritism but i said that you guys are welcome to disagree............... ^Chak De, is Akshaye Khanna just an ok actor?? U didn't even watch Gandhi My Father. By the way, i hav watched all movies of Akshaye Khanna, i can say that he is the only talented actor who is always being underrated, underutilized and understated in each of his film.

Agreed Amitabh was too good in Cheeni Kum but his dialogue wiv Paresh Rawal was a bit too much. Still, it was a memorable performance. A very good chef in London. ;) Abhishek was too good in Guru too but not that perfect. He was overacting in some scenes. Still, it's his award-winning performance. But, I noticed that his performance and character looked too similar to Tamil and Telegu movie. Same style and same acting.

I don't really think that Akshaye Khanna was too irritating in Salaam-e-Ishq. He was outstanding in the film. His facial expressions were very witty and exceptional. He should get the nomination as the best comedian but to win the award is too hard bcoz it's Vinay Pathak who has to win for Bheja Fry.

For your kind information, it's not Govinda alone, but both Govinda and Akshaye Khanna who were the only good thing in that senseless movie. But, I prefer Akshaye Khanna's comic character over Govinda.

I think to have six nominations per category is allowed only if it is fair enough. Akshay Kumar for Namastey London could have been added. How come you all have forgotten Saagarika Ghaatge in Chak De India? This Chak De girl deserves a nomination best debut female together with Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Urvashi Sharma, Jiah Khan and Haansika Motwani. After reading these comments above, I think I'm quite biased about Deepika Padukone's performance in Om Shanti Om and that's why I've already voted for her as best female newcomer in other sites on the net. It's now that I realised the fact that it's Sonam Kapoor who is better debut actress for Saawariyaa and also she deserves to win the award. Rani Mukherji should be nominated best supporting actress for Saawariyaa. I haven't watched Anil Kapoor Production based on Gandhi and his son Harilal yet, but I watched the promos several times. I must say that Akshaye Khanna looked really stunning in that film. I'm sure he must have give an extraordinary performance as mentioned by critic reviewer Taran Adarsh (IndiaFm.com). I think I must watch it via DVD because I have to vote for Filmfare Awards 2008 very soon. He was hilarious and very funny in Salaam-e-Ishq too. And, I don't think that his character (Shiven) was irritating at all. It's Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra who irritated me in Salaam-e-Ishq. The character of Shiven (Akshaye Khanna) and Govinda's love-interest Shanon Esra really encouraged me to watch the film for 3.5 hours. I think Shah Rukh should win best actor (popular) for Chak De India and Abhishek should also win the same award (critic) for Guru. And, yes I'll surely watch Gandhi my father in order to check on Akshaye Khanna's best performance. Best Playback Singer (Female), my pick is Shreya Ghosal for Yeh Ishqq Haye (Jab We Met) and Best Playback Singer (Male), Shaan for Jabse Tere Naina (Saawariyaa) is my favourite.

Black friday has been completely ignored...........i thk it was a pathbreaking film....................and most imp i thk darsheel shld hav been nominated for d best actor category along wid sharukh nd others aftr all he was in a leading role.......................and its very imp that we shld hav only 2 awards fr acting one in a leading role and the other in a supporting role............comedians,villains r actors at d end f the day........in India the best actor(bth male nd female) awards is considered to b the biggest and thus it is given in the end.............but I thk screenplay,direction and the best movie award r d ones that should end the show..........as far as far the critics take on it goes i agree wid him in almost every point except in the best female actor category where I believe kareena should win coz its not only her best perfomance till date but also coz it seemed so effortless and natural.......... just take d example of the scene where shahid comes back 2 take her in shimla...........she was brilliant in that............I really couldn't believe that it was the same kareena who used to or was made to overact!!!

It's unfair that Amitabh won the critic best actor award over Abhishek whose performance in Guru is far more superior than Amitabh's Cheeni Kum. I'm very glad that Shah Rukh Khan won the popular award best actor for Chak De India. Thank God, that he did not win for Om Shanti Om. Of course, Akshaye Khanna should have won special jury best performance award for Gandhi, My Father. SRK-Deepika Padukone best jodi for OSO is absolutely a false award. Believe me, it's Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor who deserve best jodi award for Jab We Met. Sonam Kapoor (Saawariya) is a better actress than Deepika Padukone (OSO) though. If Irfan Khan by winning best Best Actor in a Comic Role award for Life In A Metro is a surprise, then if Akshaye Khanna had won this same award for his best comic role in Salaam-E-Ishqq would be a big surprise too.

I was in a big confusion for choosing the best film between CDI and TZP but at last i hv decided to go with TZP bcoz it sends a message to whole world especially for parents that hw to deal with Kid's problem?.
