Awards Poll - Part 2: Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress

Awards for best supporting roles are usually associated with veteran character actors. However, if you have noticed, these awards have been won by mainline actors quite frequently of late. Interestingly this category has been dominated by the first family of Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan started his career with great supporting roles in Anand and Namak Haram before establishing himself as the main lead. He started his 2nd innings too with one such role in Mohabbatein. Jaya Bachchan has recently won awards and accolades for Fiza, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghum and Kal Ho Na Ho. Abhishek Bachchan too has shown that he can be scene stealer with stellar supporting roles in Yuva, Sarkar and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Gone are the days when some actors felt relegated to back seat when they were nominated for Best Actor in Supporting Role. Remember Vaijyanti Mala refusing to accept the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Devdas as she felt Chandramukhi's role was more powerful than Paro's.
Who can forget powerpacked supporting performances of Mithun Chakraborty in Agneepath, Sunny Deol in Damini, Nana Patekar in Parinda, Jackie Shroff in 1942 A Love Story, Anil Kapoor in Taal, Viveik Oberoi in Company, Saif Ali Khan in Dil Chahta Hai, Arshad Warsi in Munnabhai series, Karisma Kapoor in Dil To Pagal Hai, Rani Mukherjee in Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai, Madhuri Dixit in Devdas and Konkana Sen Sharma in Omkara to name a few from the recent memory? We had a post too on this earlier. In case you missed it, you may want to have a look here.
2007 saw some well written supporting characters played brilliantly on the screen. In Part 2 of the ongoing Awards Poll series, we ask you to vote for the Best Supporting Actor and the Best Supporting Actress. Should it be Arshad Warsi for Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, Irrfan Khan for Life In A Metro, Mithun Chakraborty for Guru, Rajat Kapoor for Bheja Fry, Rishi Kapoor for Namastey London or Sharman Joshi for Life In A Metro? And Gul Panag for Manorama Six Feet Under, Konkana Sen Sharma for Life In A Metro, Shefali Shah for Gandhi My Father, Shilpa Shetty for Life In A Metro, Shilpa Shukla for Chak De India, Tisca Chopra for Taare Zameen Par or Vidya Balan for Guru? Did not find your choice here? Leave that as comment and we will add it before publishing the Top 5 Nominations.
