Tabu for the Oscars??

As Vidhu Vinod Chopra continues to squash the doubters by his verbal diatribe, another unlikely contender has slowly risen to the top of "oscar hopefuls" pile - Tabu. Yes her performance in the critically acclaimed "The Namesake" might get her a nomination in the Best Actor (Female) category.  Now that would be something....

There's no doubt that Tabu is one of the most talented actresses to have worked in Bollywood and has had a great career there. But getting some international recognition hasn't hurt anyone and an Academy Award nomination can certainly change a lot of things. Mira Nair and Ronnie Screwvala have been quietly garnering support for the movie, by organizing a number of private screenings. The movie did about $20-25 MM in business worldwide and more than half of that came from US. It received positive reviews from critics and audience both.

I certainly hope that she gets a nomination, but as we all know its a very complicated (read lots of lobbying) process and who knows how far she'll go. But here's wishing her all the best.
