Male Bonding Ka Dhamaal in Bollywood

There is some kind of trend started of late in Bollywood - "male bonding". Throw in some 3-4 friends and write a funny script around them. We have had Dil Chahta Hai, Jhankar Beats, Masti, No Entry, Fight Club (however pathetic it was), Golmaal, Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi, latest Heyy Babyy and forthcoming Dhol. These movies have their own appeal and cater to a good segment of audience. Also if you note there are certain actors who have more or less specialized in these part roles. It's good that they have realized they cannot shoulder the complete movie on their own so why not combine forces. Such names which come instantly to mind are Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Aftaab Shivdasani.

Dhamaal, which releases this Friday, belongs to the same genre. Directed by Indra Kumar, the story goes something like this. Roy (Riteish Deshmukh), Manav (Javed Jaffrey), Adi (Arshad Warsi) and Boman (Ashish Choudhary) are four lovable idiots who live and con together. One day, while trying to save a dying man, Bose (Prem Chopra), they get their big break. They think their life is made but unfortunately for them, Police Inspector Kabir Nayak (Sanjay Dutt) has been chasing Bose for the last ten years. He finally finds him. Only dead! Desperate for his promotion, he questions the suspicious looking foursome he finds next to the body. Inadvertently they blurt out the secret before managing to escape. Now begins the mother of all chases! As one misadventure follows after another, the five are thrown into hilarious situations that has the audience in splits and guessing.

I hope Dhamaal is as hilarious as the promos promise to be!!!

My favorite in this genre is but of course Dil Chahta Hai. Which one is your favorite?

Re: Male Bonding Ka Dhamaal in Bollywood

Most of these movies coming come up these days including the ones directed or filmed by Priyadarshan as he calls are remakes of malayalam movies of the late 80's. Although these guys are trying their best to emulate those movies they sometimes come out as poor caricatures. Heyy bayy, Dhol, Hera pheri,Bhool Bhulaiyya, to name a few are remakes of malayalam movies where they generally have some stories revolving around some friends and their adventures, the character actors are important, theres hardly any scope for the female leads.

I think Chashme Baddur is a movie that immediately comes to mind as a classic in this genre of movies.....however these kind of movies didn't get too much attention until recently when directors saw this as an easy way to make money.....throw some guys together and funny lines and bingo you got a movie.....

Re: Male Bonding Ka Dhamaal in Bollywood

ofcourse, nothing can beat Dil Chahta Hai...a complete movie in this genre of movies or any other for that matter.
