Movie Preview : PAPRIKA !!!

After making a string of animated movies such as “Perfect Blue” (1997), “Millennium Actress” (2001) and “Tokyo Godfathers” (2003), Director Satoshi Kon brings yet another anime “Paprika” that erupts with ideas about multiple identities, Japanese repression and cumulative dreams.

This ambrosial thriller is wrapped with a lot of imagination and each and every frame is full of visual invention. The movie is based on an original story written by Yasutaka Tsutsui and screenplay by Seishi Minakami & Satoshi Kon. 

The movie drafts the story of Dr. Atsuko Chiba (Megumi Hayashibara) who is a genius scientist by day but a dream warrior named “Paprika” by night. In the near future, a machine called the “DC Mini” is able to enter into peoples’ dreams and explore their senseless thoughts. But before the government can pass a bill to authorize its use, one of the prototypes is stolen which could lead to a healthy devastation as the user can obliterate a dreamer’s personality when they are asleep. To discover who is behind all this, Dr. Atsuko Chiba enters the dream world under her code name “Paprika”.

The movie promises to entice its audiences by creating an insubstantial boundary between dreams and reality. The movie also comprises of itinerant appliances, buzzing toys, colossal robots and other bizarre items accompanied by an upbeat music by Susumu Hirasawa and the Director of Photography is Michiya Kato, who helps in strengthening the flamboyant, socio-politically attuned plot through his shots.

The movie is all set to hit the theatres on 25^th May.
