No Connection - No Entry... That's Bollywood for you!
Ever wondered the industry which produces the maximum number of films in the world annually is actually dependent on a handful of saleable stars and even a lesser number of production houses. You can count them on your fingers. Bollywood is visibly divided into camps.
Yash Raj Films, the number one banner, work only with the big names - Bachchans, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta. Close second is Karan Johar camp, whose Dharma Productions again work mostly with the same set of big stars. Rakesh Roshan's Fimkraft makes films only with Hrithik Roshan. Vidhu Vinod Chopra camp works only with Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan and the likes. Mukesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films also work only with their kind of actors. Earlier Ram Gopa Varma used to give breaks to newcomers but of late even his Factory prefers Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgun to wannabe stars. This is not a healthy sign.
In 1970s and 1980s, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) used to be a good source of acting talent. The acting course was resumed at the FTII two years ago, but the graduates are not making any great news. Recently there have been dime-a-dozen talent hunts. But, barring a few, do you ever hear about their winners once the show goes off air? And even those lucky few, who get some chance, fade away before they arrive. For instance, Sarwar Ahuja and Aditi Sharma, winners of some Zee contest who starred in the recent 'Khanna & Iyer'. Although produced by Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts, it sank alongwith these budding newbies without any trace because of the poor quality of the script and bad (read little) promotion.
Among the current lot, there are only a few who have managed to score without any family connection. And the counting does not go beyond John Abraham, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan, Bipasha Basu, Kangana Ranaut, Ayesha Takia and Mallika Sherawat. Clearly, for the talent pool to grow - big banners need to launch films with newcomers. It's high time Bollywood tries to get rid of the accusation of being family-based fraternity where connections matter the most.

I think with more new (not from the industry) directors like Nagesh Kukonoor coming to the front we'll see some good actors making it.....otherwise it'll be the same incestual story over and over again....we will see a lot of new comers this year but 90% of them are sons and daughters of film stars or other personalities....I dont have a problem with that, but like Vijay mentioned that the balance is missing and the pipeline for new comers seems to be clogged with a lot of hurdles which is never a good sign....
very soon we'll be starting a section on this website that'll showcase such talent so if anyone of you reading this knows someone that needs to be profiled....please contact us....
Re: No Connection - No Entry... That's Bollywood for you!
And I think it would be easier to recover money in case of new comers.. These days stars charge huge sums of money and inflate the whole movie biz right till the tkt counter..
A film like Iqbal and Dor, meanwhile silently makes a point..
there are more talentless star kids out there hogging limelight
let's start with the list
1. fardeen khan
2. zayed khan
3. esha deol
4. amrita arora (in films b/c of sister)
5. arbaaz and sohal khan (only films b/c of brother)
now we are hyping up rishi and neetu's kid (ranvir) and anil kappor's daughter (sonam). they are going to make a debut
still if many of them falter they will still be in films. look at abjr. this guy sucked. but the only reason is stayed this long was b/c of his father. his father got him roles from yash chopra films and starred in films with him. so it did not matter if he was good or not he was going to stick around. which leaves out other talented wannabe actors.
fardeen khan has made it this far only b/c he keeps getting this stupid sexy tag. he is not sexy at all. he can't open a picture.
some of these actors are surviving on yash chopra films (saif and abjr are examples).
though guru was a hit a lot of it had to do with his father prepping up this film in a newspaper and also abjr and aish's sudden engagement announcement.
either way bollywood is made for star kids. they get first priority. let's look at all the ones that are dominating it
1. saif ali khan
2. sanjay dutt
3. akshaye and rahul khanaa
4. kareena kapoor
5. esha deol
6. fardeen khan
7. shahid kapur
8. tushar kapoor
9. salman kha
10. amir khan
11. ajay devgan
12. kajol
13. rani mukerji
14. soha ali khan
15. sunny deol
16. bobby doel
even if they suck we are forced to like them. ex: esha deol her mom got her films like (chura liya hai tumne,na tum jano na hum) she can't act. she got this far only b/c she is a deol.
overall this film industry sucks.

Yes, Bollywood is very much a film-fraternity full of talentless non-actors lranging from the biggest gimmick of the decade (the average-looking and pathetic 'actor' called abhishek bachchan) to the ones who have proven their talent over time i.e. kajol and rani mukherji ...
I prefer to stick to Television with the likes of Shweta Tiwari, Anita Hassanandani, Iqbal-Cezanne-Eijaz Khan, etc, atleast these people work hard - an average 18 hour workday - to entertain us.
