Cast of Ramayan
While the cast of Mahabharata is still undecided, Rajkumar Santoshi declared the cast for his big budget Ramayan. Ajay Devgan has been finalized to play Ram and Riteish Deshmukh will be playing Laxman. Prakash Raj has been signed for the role of Ravan. He is the same actor who played ACP Naidu in Khakee. It's still to be seen who does Santoshi sign to play Sita. What do you say folks, who fits in there??? Any takers? My money is on Vidya Balan.
Ramayan has inspired many Hindi movies in the past. The last one I remember was Dhadkan - modern day Ramayan with Akshay Kumar playing Ram, Shilpa Shetty as kalyug ki Sita and Suniel Shetty as Ravan. Also, there have been many movies attempted to showcase Ramayan on the big screen. Prominent among them are Ramayan (1943) starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Ramayan (1960) starring Shivaji Ganesan and Sampoorna Ramayana (1961) starring Mahipal and Anita Guha. And of course, the mega TV series Ramayan by Ramanand Sagar, which became a household name in 80s.
Given a big budget and Rakjumar Santoshi at command, it would be interesting to see how Ramayan shapes up! While the rest of the cast is finalized, put your thinking caps on and post your casting.

oops, i thot u r talking abt Draupadi...who will fit better than Aish. First Salman, then Viveik, then some peepal, then some other tree, and finally Abhishek.
for sita too, i think she is right - kalyug ki sita. ram and ravan both :)

Consider the sequence of events....
1. Rename Hindi film industry to Bollywood. ("B" from Bombay and "ollywood" from Hollywood, but the funniest part is that Bombay itself is renamed to Mumbai, now Bollywood should be renamed to MUMLIWOOD)
2. Remix Hindi film songs with english taste and western musical instruments.
3. Remake Hindi films and americanize them.
EXAMPLE : Khaike Paan Banaraswaala of the film DON was a Bihari folk song with Bihari thekha (beats) but the new version from the new DON by Farhan completely kills the folk tradition of this song by removing this thekha by replacing tabla with electronic beats, which is suited for dance floor HYPIES only.
It seems to me that now the time is ripe for remixing Hindu Mythology, first the news about mahabharat'A' (focus on the extra 'A') and now this news about ramayan'A' (again focus on the extra 'A') , and uproot Indians from their cultural identity. Eventually convert every Hindu and eliminate Hinduism from India.
Rajkumar Santoshi, Mani Ratnam and people like you....Great going man , keep up the good work.....

I would have chosen Hrithik Roshan to play Ram and Vidya Balan as Sita....Riteish Deshmukh is a pretty good choice for Lakshman.....I think Yakku from Chandrakanta could have played a better Ravan....but then they could have gone the sholay way and casted a completely new actor.....
I would love to see someone make Ramayan and make it quickly before all the Indian kids born after 95 think that Gandalf from lord of the rings is actually our God......

i think ajay will be best choice for the role and i agree with mr. santhoshi and for sita's role i think vidya balan will be perfect

Aam Bhartiya Aadmi, now where does this come from??? One genuine director Rajumar Santoshi is trying to film Ramayan, and you say he's uprooting Indian culture. Excuse me, but your statement does not gel well here.

Ramayan sounds to be a good idea. My cast will be:
Aishwarya is a good fit for Sita
Hrithik Roshan for Ram
Kadar Khan (but he is too old now) for Hanuman. Hmm, how about Tusshar Kapoor?
Amitabh Bachchan for Dashrath (although I cannot imagine Amitji getting tortured by Kaikeyi)
Mukesh Rishi for Ravan
Riteish Deshmukh is a funny man. Don't make him Laxman. I'll rather go for Siddhartha of Rang De Basanti.

how bout centering the movie around ravan,n emerging him as a macbeth like character drowned by guilt,nightmares,curses and seeking redemption,just forget bout ur fixed perception of him bein ugly n consider him to be like one of those tough,rugged tragic heroes.someone like salman khan could step into his shoes.while Arjun Rampal takes over as the avenging and punishing Ram.Zayed Khan as Laxman n so on.
