Navin Andrews : Face "Lost" No More !!!!!
After making his presence felt as an Indian soldier in the movie "The English Patient", it took him eight years to grab the role of a former Iraqi soldier, Sayid Jarrah, on "Lost", that turned him into a household name. The humanity with which Naveen Andrews portrayed this role made the character of Sayid a fan favourite. An attractive British actor of Indian descent, Naveen Andrews first rose to fame in several roles composed by Hanif Kureishi, but it was his exceptional work as Kip (the Sikh), who defused land mines & romanced a young, shell-shocked war nurse (Juliette Binoche) in “The English Patient” (1996, also starring Kristin Scott Thomas) that caught US audience’s attention.
Naveen grew up in London and studied drama at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After indulging himself into several stage productions, Naveen made his film debut in "London Kills Me" (1991). A trained musician as well, Naveen got to display his vocal abilities as a Pakistani singer in the British comedy “Wild West” (1992). Ensuing his breakthrough role in “The English Patient”, he portrayed the role of a lusty monarch in Mira Nair’s “Kama Sutra: The Tale of Love”, where he displayed a magnetic screen presence accompanied with an alluring and provocative charisma.
Naveen was also well-cast as Dr Abraham Verghese in the showtime adaptation of the physician’s memoir “My Own Country” (1998), which described his efforts treating locals in rural Tennessee infected with HIV & suffering with AIDS. He also made his US TV debut as a regular as a news producer at a 24 hour cable channel in the ABC summer series “The Beast” (2001). Since then he has appeared in several TV and Film Productions.
His other movies include “Mighty Joe Young” (1998, with Charlize Theron), “Drowning on Dry Land” (1999, with Barbara Hershey), “Rollerball” (2002, with Rebecca Romijn-Stamos), “Bride & Prejudice” (2004, with Namrata Shirodkar) and “Provoked: A True Story” (2006, with Aishwarya Rai). But, his pivotal role in “Lost” raised him to fame in both England and the US, where he now makes his home.
Naveen’s attractive presence on screen isn’t the only thing that lands him roles. He’s also brilliant at what he does having received numerous awards throughout his career. He was nominated as the Most Promising Newcomer by the Evening Standard Drama Awards in the year 1993 for the role in “Wild West”. He was also nominated for the Best Actor for BBC’s “The Buddha of Suburbia” at the San Remo Film Festival. In 2006, he was voted the “Sexiest Survivalist” by People Magazine.
Still a long way to go for this deadly dude !!!!!
