Nishabd : "Bodies age, but feelings don't"

“Attraction between two people can exist, irrespective of age” - This is what is the theme of upcoming flick “Nishabd” directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Varma was very much consumed with this idea for some time now and finally got the nod from one of his favourite actor Amitabh Bachchan to play the lead role. This project is the Bollywood version of Vladimir Nakobov’s timeless novel Lolita. While Nakobov’s novel is about a 44 year old man fantasizing about a 14 year old, Varma’s flick is a passionate and intense love story.
The film revolves around a 60 year old married man Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) who falls in love with an 18 year old girl Jiah (newcomer Jiah Khan), while clicking pictures of her playing in the water. What leads next is a strong undercurrent of sexuality, although there are no sexually explicit scenes in the film. The characters are driven by love, not sexual obsession.
Ram Gopal Varma seems to be enjoying the company of Amitabh Bachchan as this would be his third flick with the star after “Sarkar” and “Darna Zaroori Hai”. Debutante Jiah Khan, who is from London, was the first choice for the role of Jiah. She is the daughter of yesteryear actress Raabiya. Varma wanted a fresh face with no existing image for this role and someone who could be sensuous, passionate and of today’s generation. Earlier Jiah was supposed to make her debut in Anurag Basu’s “Tumsa Nahi Dekha”, but due to the unreasonable demands that she used to make on the sets, was replaced by Dia Mirza. But that turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her as now her first film is directed by Ram Gopal Varma & she is acting opposite none other than Amitabh Bachchan.
The costumes of Jiah in the film are very revealing and bold but go according to the script. The film was shot in one month and is all set to hit the theatres on Feb 23rd. The film also stars Aftab Shivdasani, Revathy, Rukhsar and Shraddha Arya. The music is given by Vishal Bharadwaj. There are only two songs in the movie - one each by Amitabh and Jiah. Have a look at Rozana...Big B at his baritone best!
