The Prevalence Of Reality Shows

The Indian television has been showcasing a lot of reality shows lately and these reality shows seem to have created a regular audience for themselves, especially those who longed for a much needed break from the "Saas Bahu” melodrama.

The recent success of "Big Boss' and the relaunching of "Kaun Banega Crorepati" with none other than Shahrukh Khan, replacing Big B Amitabh Bachchan as the new host, proves the fact that the Indian audience is looking for more real life buzz rather than the never ending "K" factor.

Talent hunts like "Indian Idol", "Fame X" and "Zee Cinestars" have created a stir amongst those youngsters who think they have what it takes to be a soulful singer or an astute actor and on the other hand we also have aggressive competition for the more adventurous one's on shows such as "MTV Roadies", "Channel [V] Get Gorgeous", and "Fear Factor".

Also shows such as "Nach Baliye" and "Jhalak Dikhla Ja" have given the already known celebs, a brand new platform to launch themselves as enthusiastic dancers. The glamour of the judges in such shows can certainly not be missed out and names such as Anupam Kher, Sonu Nigam, Pooja Bhatt, Palash Sen and many more have been associated. The prizes on stake in such shows are very high and contestants participating in them are willing to do absolutely anything crazy from jumping off high cliffs to drinking maggot shakes for just a little fun and idea of being in front of the camera and hence on national television.

These shows have no doubt become a successful device of earning for the cellphone service companies as it all encourages and persuades the audience to involve in massive SMS voting to either vote in or vote out a contestant from the show. The question however arises that has the Indian audience actually matured enough to deal with real life drama on the screen or are these shows just going to mark another passing phase? We still do not know that how much "REALITY" these shows actually exhibit and how much is it the part of a meticulous pre-planned TRP boosting hype.

Well... As for now, the shows certainly seem to be making a wave across the country and nobody's complaining.....!!!!!!!!!
