Bollymeter Dec 2006
Dec 2006 did not have many releases, thereby not impacting the rankings in Bollymeter much. The prominent ones were Baabul, Kabul Express and Bhagam Bhag, all of which did average business contrary to the major expectations from them. I see You, Aryan and With Love Tumhara did not find any takers. Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor are still ranked No. 1, though they may not be able to hold it for long with Guru and Salaam-e-Ishq releasing soon.
Top Actors:
![]() 1. Hrithik Roshan |
Hrithik Roshan maintains his No. 1 slot. 2006 was really his year with two mega hits - Krrish and Dhoom 2. It would be interesting to see how long he is able to hold his Numero Uno position as his next release Jodhaa Akbar is not very soon. |
![]() 2. Aamir Khan |
Aamir Khan also had two super hits in 2006 - Rang De Basanti and Fanaa. Rarely do we get to see more than one Aamir movie an year, but 2007 would be another exception year when Aamir has 3 movies lined up - Lajjo, Taare Zameen Pe and remake of Ghazini, which in turn was remake of Memento. |
![]() 3. Shah Rukh Khan |
Shah Rukh Khan had a relatively quiet year but still with two hits in KANK and Don, King Khan was always in headlines. With SRK as new KBC host, we would be witnessing another unnecessary comparison with Big B. Chak De India is probably the only major SRK movie to hit theaters in 2007. |
![]() 4. Abhishek Bachchan |
After a super successful 2005, Abhishek Bachchan had a mixed 2006. Dhoom 2 was a mega hit but it was more of a Hrithik show. Umraao Jaan failed. Nevertheless, he had a terrific presence in KANK, which was a hit. 2007 might well be the defining year for Abhishek with Guru, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Sarkar 2, Drona, Delhi 6, Raaste, Bhairavi and Chooriyan - all big banner movies. |
![]() 5. Shahid Kapoor |
Vivah, 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke stabilised Shahid Kapoor after a rough three years since Ishq Vishq in 2003. His next is Fool N Final in Feb 2007. |
![]() 6. Akshay Kumar |
On one hand Akshay Kumar had flops like Family, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, while on the other he had super hit Phir Hera Pheri and average Jaan-e-Mann and Bhagam Bhag. In 2007, Akshay has Hey Baby, Namastey London, Hera Pheri 3, Welcome and Chandramukhi. |
![]() 7. Arshad Warsi |
Arshad Warsi had a terrific 2006 making us laugh every time he came on screen in Lage Raho Munnabhai, Golmaal and Kabul Express. His only flop was Anthony Kaun Hai. Next, he has many movies in the pipeline most notably Mr. Black Mr. White and Goal. |
![]() 8. John Abraham |
John Abraham would have liked to finish 2006 on a much brighter note but average Baabul and Kabul Express did not live upto high expectations set by Taxi No. 9211. He may climb up the charts with Salaam-e-Ishq, Raaste, Happy Birthday, Rockstar, No Smoking and Goal slated for 2007 release. |
![]() 9. Sanjay Dutt |
Apart from forgettable Tathastu and Anthony Kaun Hai, Sanjay Dutt had a good year promoting Gandheegiri in a big way through his Lage Raho Munnabhai. However, his final hearing in Jan 3rd week would decide the fate of 100s of crores invested in his forthcoming movies. |
![]() 10. Ajay Devgan |
If 2006 had Ajay Devgan shining in Golmaal and Omkara, 2007 will have him playing Veeru in Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay. He also has Halla Bol, Cash and Mr Fraud among others. |
Top Actresses: |
|
![]() 1. Kareena Kapoor |
Kareena Kapoor had a wonderful 2006 with Omkara, Don, 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke. 2007 seems promising too with Lajjo, Soham - Karan Johar's Next Project and Kismat Talkies. |
![]() 2. Aishwarya Rai |
Aishwarya did not have a single release in 2006 until Umraao Jaan in Nov, which failed. But she struck gold soon with Dhoom 2. 2007 has her co-starring Abhishek in as many as 3 movies - Guru, Sarkar 2 and Karan Johar's next. Besides she also has Jodhaa Akbar opposite Hrithik. |
![]() 3. Bipasha Basu |
Bipasha had a more than decent 2006 with successful Dhoom 2, Corporate, Phir Hera Pheri and Omkara. She also had her share of flops in Jaane Hoga Kya, Darna Zaroori Hai and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye. Fool N Final will be her first 2007 release in Feb. |
![]() 4. Rani Mukherjee |
2006 saw Rani busy shedding tears in KANK and Baabul. She played a perfect bahu in Baabul and not-so-perfect wife in KANK quite convincingly. 2007 has some interesting big banner movies in store - Tara Rum Pum, Chooriyan, Saawariya and London Dreams. |
![]() 5. Kajol |
We just hope Kajol comes back to screen more often. Fanna left her fans wanting for more. |
![]() 6. Vidya Balan |
Lage Raho Munnabhai was Vidya's solo release in 2006. Good news for her fans is that 2007 has Guru, Salaam-e-Ishq, Eklavya, Halla Bol, Chandramukhi and Hey Baby. |
![]() 7. Preity Zinta |
Preity Zinta is getting more and more selective these days. She only had two releases in 2006 - KANK and Jaan-e-Mann, while in 2007 she only has Jhoom Barabar Jhoom for now. |
![]() 8. Priyanka Chopra |
Krrish and Don proved successful for Priyanka Chopra. Aapki Khatir did not. But she has as many as 9 movies lined up for 2007 so far. Just hold your breath, the list is huge and contains some big names - Salaam-E-Ishq, Drona, Love Story 2050, Kismat Talkies, Chamki Chameli, London Dreams, Big Brother, God Tussi Great Ho and Goal. Way to Go! |
![]() 9. Kangana Ranaut |
Kangna Ranaut made a remarkable debut in 2006 with Gangster and Woh Lamhe. Next, she will be seen in Shakalaka Boom Boom and Life In A... Metro. |
![]() 10. Rimi Sen |
Rimi Sen appeared (briefly) in three successful movies in 2006 - Dhoom 2, Golmaal and Phir Hera Pheri. Let's hope she is as lucky in 2007 too. |

Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
This page was quite informative not only about 2006 releases but also forthcoming movies of the Top 10 stars. Now I know where to go to look for next releases. Thanks!
I am not sure about the ranking system though. Looks good. Would be interested to know the parameters you use in Bollymeter. And btw, how come Big B and Saif Ali Khan are missing?
Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
Except john and rimi sen everything was gud
Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
LA Gal, the overall rank is a weighted average of several parameters, including but not limited to, number of releases, number of hits, number of flops, actor's contribution in making or breaking the movie, critical acclaim, and of course, verdict on the street.
Big B has not been so successful of late with flops like Family and Darna Zaroori Hai, while he was in a mere supporting role in KANK and Baabul did not help him much either by doing an average business. His performances were great in all four, which is why he is not totally out of contention. He just missed a spot in Top 10. Eklavya might put him up right there in Top 10. Let's see!
As for Saif Ali Khan, he only had Omkara and Being Cyrus in the recent past, which were not enough to put him in Top 10. If you take a look at previous months' Bollymeter, he was there at No. 9 in Aug 2006. But since then others have tasted more success than Saif.
'Hope that explains!
Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
Rahul, who do you think is missing in Top 10 Actresses? And what's wrong with John Abraham at No. 8?
no kareena at no 1, not at all convincing
hello frenz, somewhere it's been said that kareena has been put right at the top among the actresses coz other actresses didn't have wonderous movies this year. i dont buy that argument coz there are many who did much better than kareena. 36 china town and chup chup ke were inconsequential movies. china town was average whereas chup chup ke flopped. moreover she was a decorative piece in these films. less and less filma makers are going to her nowadays and she's lost her market value considerably. the only film of hers that made a mark this year was omakara. but it too was a box office flop though commercially acclaimed. kareena didn't have a meaty role in it too. it was saif ali khan's film followed by ajay devgan. talking of other actresses priyanka chopra delivered two hits krrish and don though in krrish she didn't have anything to do. rani mukherji delivered a hit with KANK although her role wasn't any great shakes. bipasha basu delivered big hits like dhoom2 and phir here pheri. also her beedi jalaile item number in omkara became a big rage. then she gave a superb performance in corporate and was praised by the critics. finally there is aishwarya rai who delivered a blockbuster with dhoom 2. she looked stunning and her performance was hugely appreciated. her pairing with hrithik became a rage. even in the flop umrao jaan her perforamnce came in for huge appreciation. she was credited for carrying the film entirely on her shoulders. also ash has a big market strength. big film makers like ashutosh gowariker, mani ratnam, ram gopal varma are approaching her with superb roles.so kareena has no right to be at no 1. it should be aishwarya.
Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
I m sure Kareena would no longer be No. 1. Aishwarya should replace her at the top after Guru.
Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
I think the ranking looks decent enough. Neha u r right, I also hope Abhishek and Aish to be at top this month. They are awesome in GURU.
Ajay Devgan plan in 2007
I REQUEST TO YASH CHOPRA TO DIRECT AJY DEVGAN WITH SHAHRUKH KHAN TOGETHER. AS TILL NOW WE ARE UNABLE TO SEE THESE TWO MEGA STARS TOGETHER.
I ALSO REQUEST TO FARHAN AKHTAR TO DIRECT AJAY DEVGAN OPPOSIT TO MADHURI DIXIT.
AND REQUEST TO RAJ KUMAR SANTOSHI TO MAKE A FILM WITH AJAY DEVGAN WITH THE TITLES
MERA NAAM JOKER 2
SANGAM 2
BOBBY 2
MAIN SUNDAR HOON 2
LOOKING FORWARD
ALI FROM UK
Re: Bollymeter Dec 2006
How can one tolerate Kangana Ranaut? She over-acts like hell. reminds you of poor cousin of tragedy queen meena kumari. i just watched woh lamhe and was bored to death. even shiney ahuja is much over-rated.
Kajol, Vidya and Preity are the only ones who act act. others are waste.
among actors, list looks ok except that hrithik does not deserve #1 spot. man, that was not acting in dhoom. it was just display of how he walks, dances and does action. more often than not he was in slow motion reminding u of tv serials where each shot is taken and shown from at least 3 camera angles and in slow motion.
