Bollymeter - Nov 2006
Statistics, Ranks, Awards, Numbers, Earnings .... these hold special place in movie fans' minds. There is but one winner, however, if you ain't the first, does not mean you are the last!
This Bollymeter will track the ranking of the top actors in the current year. The overall rank is a weighted average of several parameters, including but not limited to, number of releases, number of hits, number of flops, actor's contribution in making or breaking the movie, critical acclaim, and of course, verdict on the street.
There were many new releases in Nov 2006. But the biggest of them was, undoubtedly, Dhoom 2. Expectedly, it took Box Office by storm and broke all opening records. On the other hand, Umrao Jaan failed to live up to it's hype whereas Vivah and Apna Sapna Money Money were the surprise hits of the month. Deadline - Sirf 24 Ghante, Janani, Rehguzar and Unns failed to leave any impact.
Here's the Top 10 list for Nov 2006.
Nov-2006
![]() 1. Hrithik Roshan
|
Dhoom Macha Diya!!! Hrithik Roshan not only swept his fans off their feet with a truly awesome performance but also claims Bollymeter's No. 1 position in the process. 2006 can easily be his best year so far with two stupendous hits in Krrish and Dhoom 2. |
|
|
Aamir Khan slips a position from the top. However, with terrific performances in Rang De Basanti and Fanaa, coupled with movies' resounding success, Aamir is still well placed at No. 2. Wish RDB all the best at Oscars! |
|
3. Shah Rukh Khan |
2006 has not been super successful for SRK. Yet, with KANK and Don, King Khan is at No. 3. Let's see what 2007 has in store for Shah Rukh. |
![]() 4. Abhishek Bachchan |
Umrao Jaan had Abhishek Bachchan in a glorified guest appearance kind of role. It did not do any good or bad to him. However, Bachchan Jr climbs up the ranks courtesy super successful Dhoom 2. He might not have got a tailor-made role but he made best of what he got and was impressive once again as no non-sense cop. |
![]() 5. Shahid Kapoor
|
Shahid Kapur, as the latest Prem, got his long due solo hit in Vivah. That brings him in the Top 10 for the first time. He has had a decent 2006 with 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke also being moderately successful for him at box office. |
![]() 6. Sanjay Dutt |
While his well wishers (which includes the entire film fraternity) sighed relief on his acquittal from TADA, Sanjay Dutt is still riding high on the success of Lage Raho Munnabhai. |
![]() 7. Ajay Devgan |
Ajay Devgan slips down further. Golmaal and Omkara were appreciated by masses and classes respectively but he needs another Hit now to move up in Bollymeter. |
![]() 8. Akshay Kumar
|
He he he...Akki style. Akshay Kumar won many hearts with Jaan-e-Mann. December will see Bhagam Bhag, where he has a tough competition in the form of the original king of comedy - Govinda. A mixed year so far - with a super hit Phir Hera Pheri, an average Jann-e-Mann and flops like Family, Mere Jeevan Saathi and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye. |
![]() 9. Riteish Deshmukh
|
Riteish Deshmukh is slowly and steadily firming his ground in Bollywood. Apna Sapna Money Money completely rested on his shoulders, and he proved yet again that he is too good at comedy. He also had Malamaal Weekly earlier but that movie's success belongs to Paresh Rawal more than anyone else. He had two flops too in Fight Club and Darna Zaroori Hai. |
![]() 10. Arshad Warsi
|
Arshad Warsi completes the trio of comic actors who form the bottom three of this month's Bollymeter. We will see more of him in Kabul Express in December. |
And the list for top actresses goes like this:
![]() 1. Kareena Kapoor
|
36 China Town, Chup Chup Ke and Omkara have done wonders to Kareena Kapoor's career. She might not have been able to recreate Helen's magic in Don, but still she managed well to be No. 1 yet again. |
|
2. Aishwarya Rai |
Umrao Jaan might not have worked at the box office but Aishwarya won accolades for her fine portrayal. She looked astonishingly beautiful. As if that was not enough, November saw Aish in another superb performance in Dhoom 2. Debuts at No. 2 directly in Bollymeter. Way to go! |
![]() 3. Bipasha Basu
|
'Bidi jalaye le' girl rocked as super cop cum Brazilian babe in Dhoom 2. Bipasha has done great this year with Phir Hera Pheri, Corporate and Omkara also in her kitty. |
![]() 4. Kajol
|
Kajol came, saw and conquered in Fanaa! Did you ask - 'When do we get to see her next?'. Well your guess is as good as mine. |
![]() 5. Vidya Balan
|
Gooood Morniiiiing Vidya! You have stamped your beauty and class. With Guru, Eklavya and Salaam-e-Ishq in pipeline, you are certainly rocking! |
![]() 6. Preity Zinta
|
Preity was sidelined in KANK. But Jaan-e-Mann brought her in the headlines again. |
![]() 7. Priyanka Chopra
|
Krrish and Don are two good enough reasons for Priyanka to be in Top 10 although Aap Ki Khatir tried to pull her down. |
![]() 8. Kangana Ranaut
|
Kangna Ranaut was mesmerizing in both Woh Lamhe and Gangster. |
![]() 9. Rani Mukherjee
|
Rani might not have been at her best in KANK but she has Baabul coming soon. Hope she sheds less tears in Baabul. |
![]() 10. Rimi Sen
|
Rimi Sen is a lucky mascot. Ask the producers of Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal and also Sanjay Ghadvi, who did not want to miss her lucky charm in Dhoom 2 as well. |

this so called rating is so
this so called rating is so full of crap. abjr is number 4 . whatever. what did he do so wow in dhoom 2 that he deserves that credit. please. akshay should have been up there more. sanjay dutt deserves a bigger spot. shahid and ritesh worked harder than abjr to get where they got. if it wasn't for a yash chopra or karan johar film abjr would not even be in a top ten. hritik deserves top spot.
kareena is not no.1. keep in mind chup chup ke and 36 chinatown were just average. omkara bombed. her act in don sucked. rani or aish deserves to be at the top. ditto for preity. kangana's and kajol's performances in their films gangster and fanaa beat kareena's performances this year.
this bollywood meter is so fake.
Yeah right! Ajay Mathur, you
Yeah right! Ajay Mathur, you seem to be perpetually pissed off. I have read your other comments too. What's your problem in life? Can't you be happy? I think these ratings do make sense if you think rationally.
"if it wasn’t for a yash chopra or karan johar film abjr would not even be in a top ten." Now c'mon dude, take it easy. Yash Raj and KJ sign AB Jr, because he is good. They won't stop signing him because one Mr Ajay does not like him.
Just to clear the confusion
Just to clear the confusion this rating is based on a continuous scale with the last month getting the most weightage....so even though Sanju had a bigger hit in Lage Raho he hasn't had a release in several months....so he cannot be higher ranked.....than Abhishek (and whether or not who stole the show, each lead actor in a hit gets credit).
I don't use strong words on a website but i think ajay mathur you are smoking some weird shit....Shahid and Ritesh worked hard to get where they got which is where? bottom of the pile....Ritesh is a son of a politician, i know he is good than most actors but he wouldnt have got a break if he wasn't son of a politician and Shahid please....he's the most over rated annoying piece of shit on planet earth....anyone who calls him an actor needs to be spanked until their ass turns red like a langoor....because that's what they are.....
although I'll agree Kareena is a bit high rated on this list, but then again none of the actresses have had wonderous movies this year
all i am saying in terms of
all i am saying in terms of this so called bolly rating it should be based on what they have contributed to the film in terms of did people really go to see him or her in the film. is this what this meter is about or the fact that you are just in the film that is what this meter is about. if we are to believe that abjr was one of the reasons dhoom 2 was a hit it is not true. hritik pretty much stole the whole show. when you think sanjay dutt of munnabhai or shahid kapoor of vivah they were the reasons why people went to go see the films. and note these films were "solo" hero films something abjr has still yet to prove. the fact is that dhoom 2 was more of a hritik film in which if you want to read dhoom 2 reviews states that abjr was "sidelined" was "supporting actor" was "okay but overshadowed". if that is the case then uday should be up here too. as for ritesh he was the main hero in apna sapna money money and he at least made the film above average on all his own shoulders. if abjr can do it with guru ( i doubt it) then he can be up there. but this bolly meter is whack
and yes i don't think kareena deserves the top spot. with the exception of omkara all her performances were below par. rani did better than her in kank and even babul.
Good points Ajay we'll take
Good points Ajay we'll take those into consideration for the next one.....remember its an evolving system and most of it is really subjective......so no matter what list goes up there, there'll be unsatisfied people:-) which is also part of the fun as it leads to debates like these....but thanks for the feedback
also if you want to talk
also if you want to talk about film contribution then paresh rawal should be in the top ten too. he was the sole reason why malamaal weekly and phir hera pheri werer superhits. he also was one of the main reasons to watch chup chup ke and golmaal.
as for arshad warsi after this week when kabul express comes out he better move up there. he was also one of the main reasons munnabhai 2 worked.
that is what i say this bolly meter is whack
it is still hard to digest that abjr is no.4
Agreed, Abhishek Bachchan in
Agreed, Abhishek Bachchan in Dhoom 2 was sidelined by Hrithik Roshan to an extent. And that's exactly why he got less points for Dhoom 2 in Bollymeter than Hrithik. Ajay, please note that the overall rank is a weighted average of several parameters, including but not limited to, number of releases, number of hits, number of flops, actor's contribution in making or breaking the movie, critical acclaim, and of course, verdict on the street.
okay i will buy this so
okay i will buy this so called bolly meter. now let's see what happens after guru. we will see how biased this bolly meter rating is then if guru is a hit or a flop.
and as i said before even if abjr was not in dhoom 2 the film still would have done outstanding buseinss. his role could have been easily played by bomi irani or om puri or even irfan khan.
hritik was the main reason the film did so wow and that is the fact.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RIMI SEN-
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RIMI SEN- HOW DID SHE EVEN GET ON THE LIST?
WHERE IS AMRITA RAO???????????????????
HELLOOOOOO PEOPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
AAMIR KHAN IS NUMBER 1 IN MY
AAMIR KHAN IS NUMBER 1 IN MY BOOKS!!!! HRITHIK A CLOSE 2ND!!!!!!
AB JUNIOR DOESN'T RATE!!
KAJOL IS THE BEST!!!!!
hello frenz, somewhere it's
hello frenz, somewhere it's been said that kareena has been put right at the top among the actresses coz other actresses didn't have wonderous movies this year. i dont buy that argument coz there are many who did much better than kareena. 36 china town and chup chup ke were inconsequential movies. china town was average whereas chup chup ke flopped. moreover she was a decorative piece in these films. less and less filma makers are going to her nowadays and she's lost her market value considerably. the only film of hers that made a mark this year was omakara. but it too was a box office flop though commercially acclaimed. kareena didn't have a meaty role in it too. it was saif ali khan's film followed by ajay devgan. talking of other actresses priyanka chopra delivered two hits krrish and don though in krrish she didn't have anything to do. rani mukherji delivered a hit with KANK although her role wasn't any great shakes. bipasha basu delivered big hits like dhoom2 and phir here pheri. also her beedi jalaile item number in omkara became a big rage. then she gave a superb performance in corporate and was praised by the critics. finally there is aishwarya rai who delivered a blockbuster with dhoom 2. she looked stunning and her performance was hugely appreciated. her pairing with hrithik became a rage. even in the flop umrao jaan her perforamnce came in for huge appreciation. she was credited for carrying the film entirely on her shoulders. also ash has a big market strength. big film makers like ashutosh gowariker, mani ratnam, ram gopal varma are approaching her with superb roles.so kareena has no right to be at no 1. it should be aishwarya.
