For All Closet SRK Fans....

I still remember the day after the first episode of Fauji was aired on Doordarshan; all the girls in my high school were going crazy over some dude called Abhi (Shahrukh Khan). Little did the world know that he will soon rule Bollywood and will have a fan following from Boston to Bangalore.....

What SRK has accomplished in his journey from being a full of life Fauji, to a clever and menacing Don, cannot be captured in words. He's a different kind of superstar. He's one person who people love to hate but he still has millions of hysterical fans across the world, who will gobble on anything he dishes out to them. I think he's one star that has more closet fans than any actor alive. The reason why I say that is because people love to make fun of Khan, his movies, his style, his way of talking, but they would still go watch his every movie. I am one of those guys, I have never in my life come out and said that I am a Shahrukh fan, but I've seen all his movies (except for Anjaam) and all the tv shows too. 

What is it about him that makes him a superstar and puts him leagues ahead of his contemporaries when it comes to drawing a crowd? I personally don't know and I guess no one knows why a certain star is so big and others not. I mean there is stuff like hardwork, luck and talent which most good performers posses but you need to have that special ability to be a superstar, something extraordinary. Amitabh Bachchan has that, Dilip Kumar had it and SRK has it. It's difficult to say how long he'll rule the industry, but looking back its been one helluva ride. Like I said I am not a fan of SRK (there I said it again) but there are some movies where I would not replace him with anyone (actually I won't replace him in any movie....his movies that I didn't like should not have been made in the first place. For example world would be a better place without a movie like Ram Jaane). My favorite SRK movies are Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge and Swades (I just wish that movie had more punch). I also liked him in Fauji, he WAS the life of that show. The characters he played in these four movies were so different from each other and if you watched them back to back, you'll realize how versatile King Khan really is. My only complaint was that he stretched his Raj Malhotra image a bit too far, but then it can be argued that so did AB with his Vijay, angry young man image, and I am sure there's some fan out there on the other side of the fence who hated AB for that. But at the end of the day it's all good because both AB and SRK made a lot of people rich and are one of the big reasons why we still go back to the theatres.

So why am I telling you all this? Think of it as my coming out day ( yeah a day after his birthday). I am writing this for all the closet SRK fans so they can use this opportunity to come out and hold hands with his "already out" fans and share their favorite SRK stories, movie moments etc. Well actually just forget about the holding hands piece and tell us what SRK movies you like:-)
