2 Sequels and a Prequel - LA Confidential, Harold and Kumar, Se7en

Everywhere you look, it's like people are either talking about remakes or sequels, how about some fresh new ideas? Anyways while we think about that, the latest from Hollywood are the rumors about two sequels and a prequel....
LA Confidential 2 - This is the second post here on Joe Carnahan in 2 days. The director of Narc and upcoming Smokin Aces will be at the helm of the sequel to the 90s movie, LA Confidential. The sequel will be film noir hippy style as it is set in 60s and will be called White Jazz. According to moviehole.net:
Joe Carnahan, the talented brains behind the acclaimed thriller “Narc” (2004), has signed to direct a sequel to the 90s hit, “L.A Confidential”.“The film I’m doing next is White Jazz, the sequel to LA Confidential,” Carnahan tells CHUD. “My brother and I wrote the adaptation,” he said.
“That script is one of my favorites. It’s heartbreaking. It’s, to me, what that book always was – the point of departure from the Eisenhower 50s to the psychedelic freakshow, Manson 60s. It’s a total combination of the two with a heavy, heavy voice-over narration, this kind of classic noir. I love the script, dude. I’m going to get it out there – once it’s done I’m going to get it on the internet so people can read it.”
White Jazz”, the film, has been in development hell for quite a while. At one stage, Nick Nolte was set to play the films lead character, a corrupt copper named David "Dave" Klein, and John Cusack was attached to play his partner, Junior Stemmons. Just weeks before she was arrested for shoplifting, Winona Ryder was reportedly in talks to play a role.
I think that's great news and I trust Joe to come out with a classic product. LA Confidential is one of my favorite movies and I would hate for someone to mess with it. Watch this space for other news on this project.
Harold and Kumar 2 - The first one was funny, it had a lot of things going for it - 2 leads from minority community, stoners, cameos by a number of well known faces and a cheetah:-) At the end there was a hint that the next one will be shot in Amsterdam, however that probably is not going to happen. According to Cinematical:
John Cho (Harold) and Kal Penn (Kumar) have officially signed on to star in Harold and Kumar 2, with screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (who penned the first flick) set to make their directorial debut on the sequel. Now, before there was word that a sequel would find the boys traveling across Amsterdam, however we're not certain whether it will take place abroad or here in the States. PR describes the pic as a cross-country adventure that "follows the pot-smoking duo as they try to outrun authorities after being suspected as terrorists when they try to sneak a bong on board a flight to Amsterdam."
According to South Park it should be exactly 22.3 years before we can make fun of any serious subject, but I guess the makers of H&K 2 have decided that it's been long enough and being terrorists is actually funny. We'll have to wait and see how that turns out....
Se7en - Well this one might actually be just a rumor, because nothing has been confirmed yet. In the past David Fincher has talked about a sequel, but none of the scripts doing the round made sense to him. However the Se7en prequel rumors started floating around sometime back and now slashfilm.com has this on it:
According to BD, a treatment titled Virtue is being sent out to potential scribes. The horror website claims that the movie would be released and marketed as "it's own entity, but when the finale comes to light we are hit with a revelation that we're watching the next Se7en film."
Honestly I don't care much about this one. I really liked the movie, I watched it when it came out, I have watched it a few times after that on TV. But it's not one of my favorite movies and I would never buy it's DVD. However if they do come out with a prequel or a sequel, I would still go and watch it...
