Kapi with Karen (oops Karan)

Before I start, let me tell you something, I don't dislike Karan Johar or the type of movies he makes. In fact I enjoyed KKHH and Kal Ho Na Ho (well he produced it). What really amuses me though is when he sounds shocked and disappointed at why people didn't like his latest movie or the way he goes about promoting everything his camp produces like a little princess would and how he and Preity talk non-stop....so cute!!

I am not putting words in your mouth, we all know he's gay and I don't blame him for still being in the closet. I mean when it's tough for Tom Cruise to come out, KJ after all lives in a super conservative India. All I am saying is that it really is a lot of fun to watch this drama from time to time. I happened to come across this interview on NaachGaana.com with KJ and it was funny in parts....here are some excerpts....

Were you disappointed by its performance at the Indian box office?

KJ: I must confess I was. But it did more business than Kal Ho Na Ho all over India. I may have wanted the sun and moon with the stars. Maybe audiences were shocked with the content, or they didn't identify with the urban marital reality. Whatever the reason, yes it's a disappointment in India. But overseas it my biggest film.

LT: shocked with the content? probably shocked with the stupidity of Rani's character

You were prepared for this.

KJ: I was . But I still wanted to be proven wrong. I wanted it to cross the collections of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. But it didn't happen. But I got such wonderful reactions from all quarters. How many films manage to provoke so much debate? Wives are angry, husbands are horrified and I'm happy.

LT: There's no F'ing debate, the only debate I was going through was should I leave after the interval? I stuck and decided to utilize my sunk cost.....in all honesty I don't think the movie was deep enough to provoke any kind of debate, it was a mockery of Closer.

Now on his personal life and future plans.....

Don't you think you're too gregarious at times?

KJ: I cannot put on a brooding intensity just to look like a serious filmmaker. I love the attention. To hell with the privacy. I was born to be in showbiz . I love the fact that I can host a talk show, endorse a product…And make movies. I love my life.
LT: Mr. Interviewer he's a happy princess so let him be....

What next?
You mean my next film? People ask me if I'm going back to feel-good cinema. But in my head I was never doing the same thing, feel-good or whatever, in my films. With KANK I didn't mean to do something path-breaking. If you ask me, Rang De Basanti attempted something path-breaking. The Oscar nomination is totally deserved. Imagine mixing Bhagat Singh with contemporary issues. Sheer genius! I've never put across a single thought on cinema as brave as Rang De…KANK was brave, but not brave enough. To be braver in my next film I've to feel the need for it. I can't just do it for the sake of it. I believed in KANK. Whether you like it or not is your prerogative. But I felt marriage as an institution was being misused. And I wanted to take a look at that. My job is done.

LT: You know, this response really amazed me and showed me that he's really mature and not what RGV and rest of media makes him out to be, I like a man who can accept his limitation.....

What about your soonapan of being single?

KJ: I love the fact that I'm single. I've my mother. She's my Miss World. Who needs another woman in my life? Why be married when I can be happy?

LT: Yeah Yeah Yeah....just say it already

KANK was not that bad. Do

KANK was not that bad. Do not compare it with Closer. Probably the movie tried to say that marriage can fail for no reason whatsoever. Rani-Abhishek marriage should have worked for there was hardly anything missing. Still, it did not work. Audiences started cribbing why Rani was unhappy. C'mon that was the point of the movie - you do not need reasons.

Nonsense, KANK was a shitty

Nonsense, KANK was a shitty movie.

KingKhan I hope you are

KingKhan I hope you are kidding.....marriage can fail for no reason agreed....but why make a friggin movie out of it....I think Rani would have been happier if she lived with Abhishek in Lansing Michigan and went to Home Depot everyday....what a suburban desperate housewife
