Movies that I hate and everyone else loves: Bollywood edition
This list might tell you how weird I really am. I will be coming with more such lists, like the famous movies I have not seen or the movies that I like and everyone else hates.....but for now enjoy this one. Agree with me, crucify me or do whatever, but I am sticking to it and I'll tell you exactly why I hate these movies.....
since all good lists come in a set of 10s so here are my top 10....
1. Dil to Pagal Hai - I saw this movie in Roorkee and let me tell you, except for the comments made by the localites, there was nothing entertaining about this movie. Even though I paid merely 5 Rupees, I still felt cheated. An overacting, trying to be super cool, SRK....A 35+ cougar, acting like an innocent girl, Madhuri and supremely annoying Karishma Kapoor. The only saving grace was the Le Gayi Le Gayi song. God makes people in pairs!! as if we are shoes....
2. Ganga Jamuna - I got into an argument with my fellow MovieWalahs about this. I have a problem with Dilip Kumar and especially those movies, where he overacts. The other issue is that Indians are not good with accents and if someone who was not raised in UP and Bihar tries to do the accent, its a disaster. Dilip Kumar and Vyjanthimala should take lessons from Irfan Khan in Haasil.
3. Ram Aur Shyam - Another Dilip Kumar, over the top movie. The story played out well in Seeta aur Geeta actually or should I say Seetha Aur Geetha :-)
4. Salaam Namaste - Cheesy is the word that comes to mind when I think of this movie as a whole. Obnoxious is another word that comes to mind when I think of Preity Zinta in that movie. If the only positive point of a movie is Boogie Woogie, almost forgotten,Javed Jaffrey, that movie can't be good. They should have let loose Arshad Warsi and Saif Ali and it would have been a great movie....but alas
5. Baazigar - Good concept...and I agree the movie made SRK's career. But it didnt do anything for me. I remember people going crazy over this thing and understandably as it was the birth of a star. I don't have any specific reason why I hated it, but I did. Its one of those movies which didn't click with me. Have you seen any of its songs lately? Kajol and Shilpa look so ugly....Johnny Lever was funny.
6. Sangam - Just like Dilip Kumar, I have a problem with our Jubilee Kumar too. The movie was loooong with a stale storyline and the worst part is my Mom would watch it everytime it was on TV and I'll have to sit through it. Yikes!!
7. Beta - Before you say anything, the Dhak Dhak song was great. Beyond that the movie was loud, melodramatic and obnoxious, the signature style of Indra Kumar. But those were the times, early 90s is full of cheesy flicks.
8. Dil - Another one from Indra Kumar. The comedy in the first half was awesome and then the movie predictably turns into a loud, melodramatic one. One of the early successes of Amir Khan and probably one of his few movies that I hated.
9. Judwa - This movie was soooooo stupid. Salman Khan is funny, but I thought he was trying so hard that it looked pathetic. Songs were good and the movie was a big hit and is probably responsible for other inane movies like Hello Brother (which again had good songs and a midget looking Rani wearing hot pants)
10. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam - Ajay Devgan was good and he's usually good in those brooding, with very-little-to-say roles. Aishwarya probably thought that she's too beautiful to even act and all she did was bat her eyelashes in the entire movie. Salman Khan should just stick to comedy and not even come close to roles which require some tears, he was horrible in that last sequence.

56 actually its not just hit movies, if it was then you are right on target with that list....its about movies that everyone else in my circle of friends ( and believe me its a big circle) liked and I didn't......don't care if it was a hit or not.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun. I hate that damn movie with a vengeance. Pretty please and nicey nice with too much sugar on top. I have to take a damn aspirin every time some ass plays it nearby. And there are plenty of those around. They will swear by this movie. FREAKS!
Renuka Shahane beats Julia Roberts for the widest grin in the whole damn world and bursts open her jaw in the process. Madhuri Dixit tries to shake a booty bigger than the one in J Lo's dreams and ends up stalked by an oversexed skeleton of sometime artist M F Hussain. Salman Khan gets off by living his cross dressing fantasies on screen and the otherwise homophobic junta clap their hearts out. Unhinged psychos! Freud would have had a field day with them.
Laxmikant Berde as Lallu the servant and Tuffy the Dog play good-at-heart and fooled-by-love-pranks characters so similar that they could be interchanged without anyone noticing it. The servant can only be loved the maid girl... learning English is the biggest achievement of his life... The movie keeps throwing callous references in favor of class system and the demented audience keep applauding.
Alok Nath plays goody goody middle aged uncle whom everyone loves. C'mon people can't you see the LECHER is always making a pass at his friend's wife Reema Lagu. And Anupam Kher, the friend, takes great pride in this. What kind of a family film is this?!

One of very few Amitabh's movies, which i did not like. Although it marked the comeback of BigB in a big way, with him even winning Best Supporting Actor Filmfare Award. But whenever he said 'Ye hamari parampara hai...' and all that shit, it reminded me of Prithvi Raj Kapoor / Amrish Puri kinda stuff.
And the most boring part was: everything used to happen thrice - once each for the three not-so-young pairs. As if we are 1.5 shoes…. :-))

good topic langa...but you seem quite biased against Dilip Kumar. But i do agree with Dil to Pagal Hai and you shall remember why. It was horrible and on top of that it won all major awards.
My worst top 10 are
1. Dil to Pagal Hai.
2. Devdas
3. Pardes, Trimurti, Krishna (what the hell was wrong with Subash Ghai)
4. Kohram, Jadugar, Toofan, Mrityudata (few of Amitabh's movies)
5. Chalte Chalte
6. Bandhan
7. Hum saath saath hain
8. Ramjaane (height of overacting)
9. Jis desh me ganga rahta hai (too much of govinda)
10. Phir bhi dil hai hindustani (mockery of patriotism).

lallan I wont include Kohram and all of AB's movies coz they were genuinely bad.....and people at least my peer group seemed to agree.....Pardes is spot on and so is Mohabbatein.....PBDHH is another one of those hair splitters....
I am not biased against Dilip Kumar, I think he did a great job in Mashaal and Shakti but I think he was very over rated earlier on and that got to his head and it reflected in his acting.....

Watch Dilip Kumar in Naya Daur, Madhumati, Kohinoor, Leader, Dil Diya Dard Liya, Aadmi from his older lot. You would see lot of Dilip Kumar (esp of Dil Diya Dard Liya's second half) in Amitabh Bachchan.
