Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 years!!

At any point of time in a film industry there is not one superstar (unless of course if it's Amitabh Bachchan), but there's a group of people that dominate, own and make all the plays happen. For example in Bollywood, it was the Khans that ruled for last 15 years and are still in the commanding position, but they didn't do it all by themselves. They had the help of people like Karan Johar, Ram Gopal Varma, Yash Chopra, David Dhawan, AR Rahman, Farah Khan, Manish Malhotra etc. So I thought why not throw out a list of top 10 people who would most likely rule the Bollywood for the next 10 years. Plus top 10 lists are kinda fun to do.....
The Mandatory Disclaimer: This is in no specific order. This list below is my personal opinion based on what I've seen so far in their careers and the great expectations I have from them.
1. Abhishek Bachchan - It's like the dude was reborn after the "Kya maine socha" song from Rakht.....if that horrible movie did anything for anyone's career it was Jr. B. Now the Incarnate of Cool can do nothing wrong. He's the lucky mascot in a number of movies where he plays cameos and forces "seetis" and "woooh's" from chicks and dudes alike in the audience. When he's not doing that, he's taking all the praise for his role in the latest blockbuster. With Guru, Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2 lined up this year, this B could go where no one else has ever gone before, i.e in the path of Papa B.
2. Hrithik Roshan - The man who was born to be a star. The man who chose wrong movies, got mixed up in politics and ended up second in the race. At least so far. Guys, if I am Abhi Baby I won't take Hrithik lightly. The guy draws a crowd, drives all aunties crazy, can dance better than Usher and has locks and looks better than any Greek God you know. Number one or not, the race between him and AB will be an interesting one to watch and during the ride we'll see some sweet movies.
3. Aishwarya Rai - Let's just say that after the "Kajra Re" song, she's grown full ten notches on my hotness scale to score a perfect 10 and because she's Aishwarya Rai, she'll definitely rule this Industry for the next 10 years. I believe that she gets first look at any role in this industry and then they are passed on to Ranis and Preitys of the world. With Dhoom 2, Guru and Umrao Jaan lined up, I think future is looking bright in Bollywood (Hollywood is a different story though).
4. Aditya Chopra - The guy has created India's most powerful movie studio. From just a one man show, Yash Raj Films, now, has grown to include a number of good directors and a bunch of hits to their credit. Lets review the report card so far, after Mohabbatein - Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi hai, Saathiya, Hum Tum, Dhoom, Bunty Aur Babli, and Salaam Namaste. It doesn't end here, the upcoming list is great too - Kabul Express, Dhoom 2, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Tara Rum Pum Pum. Here's to a number of good movies Adi!!
5. Amitabh Bachchan - if he lives for another 20 years which I hope he does, he'll be part of any top 10 list that will be created....Period.
6. A R Rahman - C'mon I don't need to explain this, the guy has been inspiring a generation with his music and will continue to do so for... many more years to come. I think we've only scratched the surface of this genius so far.
7. Farhan Akhtar - Maybe I should have waited until Don came out to put him on this list.....but here's my take, Farhan is extremely talented and regardless of Don being a hit or miss, he'll still make movies that will be entertaining and contemporary. After all he made made Aamir, Saif and Akshay look hip for the first time, rejuvenated Saif's career and made me take Hrithik seriously for the first time. By the way, Lakshya is one of my favorite movies and I think the best Hrithik has done so far.
8. Saif Ali Khan - From Aashiq Awara to Langda Tyagi, this son of a Pathaan has seen it all. From the days when he was an afterthought in the movie casting, to now where he draws crowds, both men, women and trannies alike (just kidding on the trannies part). Since he played Sameer in DCH, his fortune's seemed to have reversed. Let's review - Ek Haseena Thi, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste, Parineeta, Omkara, Being Cyrus....that my man is an impressive list of movies. IMHO he'll be the only Khan in the next 10 years that will really matter. Upcoming is Eklavya and Tara Rum Pum Pum.
9. Vidya Balan - Am I smoking crack or she is really HOT. Am I crazy when I say that she could be the next Madhuri Dixit of Bollywood!! She might need her "Dhak Dhak" though. So far she's in Vinod Chopra camp, but this girl, armed with the most expressive face and a smile that can power a 1000 bulbs, has a lot more to look forward to including a movie with Kamal Hassan.
10. Rohan Sippy - I debated a lot between him and Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but Rohan's similarity to Adi Chopra made me put him on this list. Rohan is following Adi's footsteps to revive the Sippy Productions and coming up with some good contemporary cinema. He may not be as good as Adi, but he did give Abhishek and John one of their best roles. I think he's got juice, I could be wrong, but I'll stick with him here.....
So guys what do you think of this list? Did I miss someone? I'm sure I did.....looking forward to your comments.....

I think if you include
I think if you include Amitabh Bachan in the list you should surely include Shah Rukh Khan. I think he understands the pulse of his audience and is also very likely to be alive for next 20 years.
way to go Mur....I like that
way to go Mur....I like that there is an aggressive SRK fan on this site....lot of AB loving freaks here....
on second thought I think SRK will matter for next 5 years, because I cant see him playing daddy and patriarchial roles.....unless he turns into a producer/director and then he can rule again....but so far his record while producing movies has been dismal
Great list. It puts stress
Great list. It puts stress on newcomers. However surprisingly Priyanka Chopra is missing.
As far as AB goes, 20 years from now is a long shot to get into top 10 of everything. He is already in top 10 of everything. 20 years will only make him immortal.
I think Vidya Balan has more
I think Vidya Balan has more talent than Priyanka and Aishwarya is regarded more beautiful than her( public choice not mine) so I think she might get beat there.....
The Khans are old , Roshan
The Khans are old , Roshan does not give consistency and could continue with his children stuff but Abhishek Bachchan has the advantage of age and also a lot of potential in him , apart from the fact we all would start looking for amitabh (once he is gone) in him.
Hey Gabbar, where are you
Hey Gabbar, where are you sending Amitabh? He ain't going nowhere :-)
Most conspicuous by her
Most conspicuous by her absence is Rani Mukherjee! I am not sure if Vidya Balan could stick around for that long - Konkana Sen Sharma is another rising star to consider. Also if you have put Hrithik Roshan then might be worth including Rakesh Roshan as well - baap-beta mil kar hi dhoom machate hain! Another one who is not seen often but always creates an impact is Aamir Khan - am sure he will definitely stay around and will keep his niche segment positioning.
I know its mostly the lead artists who rule the industry but not to forget character artists who create their own unforgettable space - Kader Khan, Johnny Lever, Anupam Kher just to name a few and the rising star Bomman Irani!
I agree gupta ji. At least
I agree gupta ji. At least Rani Mukherjee.
I guess langda got over impressed by 2 movie old Vidya Balan in Munnabhai :-)
sorry but i do not agree
sorry but i do not agree with your comment mr lallan!
the list is for going forward. and i totally agree with the author's view on vidya balan. rani is a thing from past now!
Guptaji I dont know if I'll
Guptaji I dont know if I'll add Boman Irani to the list.....I think he's good, but I dont see him rising to the level of Paresh Rawal where people would go watch a movie, because he's in it. Reason I didnt include Paresh Rawal was I think he'll draw people for a few more years and then fade away.....
Regarding Rani, I think she's good, but the only reason she's on top is because Kajol is not there....I think she got a number of roles that were meant for her and honestly I see her and Preity to be important for next two years which is when they'll fade away.....An interesting addition would have been Kareena as she is slowly maturing and has the charisma to rule Box Office....
I am glad you have not
I am glad you have not included Kareen so far. She is just not that classy to be in this kind of list...
Kareena Kapoor is not that
Kareena Kapoor is not that classy, huh? I see beauty, sex, talent, big banner support, and age on her side. Who's gonna stop her?
and hence the dilemma....I
and hence the dilemma....I think she needs to try hard to be accepted as a "household name" which Aishwarya has become and if Vidya does it right she'll do it.....but she's definitely a force to reckon with.....and she's very young too
kareena has let me down big
kareena has let me down big time with her ye mera dil song in Don. i take my words back. i would rather have nigar khan in this list now. or rakhi sawant.
Impressive list this is!!!
Impressive list this is!!! Although I wonder about Saif's place in this. No doubt his quality and market has improved after DCH, I dont see him comarable to Abhishek, Hrithik or even other khans. I think he'll be as popular as SRK or AK for next few years and than start fading away. I'd like to see RGV in this list. Recently he has been bringing out some crap but he has the potential to create some hollywood style off beat movies - something which today's multiplex goers want to watch...
1. Not so sure of Hrithik,
1. Not so sure of Hrithik, if his father stays for 10 more years, maybe he will. So far he hasn't done well outside his Dad's camp. But Daddy cant hold your hand forever- so grow-up
2. Abhishek surely has the star appeal, but he needs to sharpen his acting skills to stick around for 10 more years. (But then if SRK can, so can anyone, even Manoj Bajpai, atleast that man can act)
3. One actor who has impressed me a lot lately is Shiny Ahuja....he has talent and a nice personality...just needs to be recognised.
4. I would definitely include Arshad Warsi.......he is the most under-rated actor in the industry.....but I think he is here to stay
5. Aishwarya is showing her age, so 10 more years....not so sure
muvybuff....good
muvybuff....good thoughts....Hrithik is a good actor and definitely lot of potential.....he needs some more god fathers in the industry....
Shiny Ahuja is cool....I just hope he does well and not end up like Manoj Bajpai.....
Arshad Warsi can never be the lead guy.....he'll definitely canibalize a lot of Paresh Rawal's business though.....

Swapnil I agree Munna Bhai
Swapnil I agree Munna Bhai should have been there, but I just didn't think he'll "Rule" for next 10 years.....but I think among the actors of his generation, he can get some good roles of older guys....so I could be wrong....
What about John Abraham?
What about John Abraham? He's also a lambi race ka ghoda. Big Banners are backing him now. I see him as a dark horse. He might well be the next Superstar. What say gals?

Dude, do you like 40
Dude, do you like 40 heroines? They look old now. How can you even imagine them for the next 10 years?
I guess Shiv answered for me
I guess Shiv answered for me Mayank.....they are top now, but will not be for another 10 years, plus this is all speculation based on whatever little I know about bollywood so not everything will be correct....
I have heard that Vidya
I have heard that Vidya Balan is rejecting movies left right and center.....some say she's unprofessional, some think she's arrogant.....she could be both, but I think she's doing the right thing being choosy, because 90% of films in bollywood are crap and the other 10% go to Aishwarya Rai first....
i THINK YOUR LIST IS GOOD
i THINK YOUR LIST IS GOOD FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS NOT TEN. THERE ARE LOT OF RISING STARS [INCLUDING DIRECTORS/ WRITERS ] IN THE PIPELINE WHO ARE YOUNGER , UPCOMING AND MOST LIKELY TO RULE!!!
Top actors have a whopping
Top actors have a whopping 15-year shelf-life in Bollywood. The top Khans are hitting that mark now - that should create a void for the rising stars soon.
Top actresses retire around age 35 to have children. We might see that trend change over next 10 years, as actresses might opt to keep on working. Aishwarya is already 33, right? If so, she'll retire in a couple of years.
Other 10-yr predictions: Konkona & Nandita will loom large in high-quality films. While Aish will never get past playing in Indian girl in western cinema, Priyanka, Bipasha, and Sushmita have the international looks and appeal to have real careers in both Bollywood and Hollywood.
Reflections.....I think to
Reflections.....I think to succeed in Hollywood, only International looks and appeal don't work.....there are lot of things, its all about your agent, luck, talent and backing.....otherwise Hollywood is littered with women that have more international looks and appeal than any of the four you mentioned......
and I think Aish, out of these four, has a better chance, Internationally because first she doesn't look Indian.....you should see the L'Oreal ad...not that Indian looks are a disadvantage, but that assures a broader role choice.....than just playing the colored girl.....second she has representation and none of these others have any......(by the time they do....they'll be older and there'll be other women) and the biggest thing is that Aish has a resume.....people know her in US as the most beautiful woman, India's superstar and then of course she's acted in hollywood movies.....so her appeal is bigger than all three you just mentioned.....
Vidya Balan - totally agree
Vidya Balan - totally agree with you! But she'll need fantastic career mgmt to avoid becoming a flash in the pan.
Farhan Akhtar - if Don succeeds in box-office, then he'll be major these next 5-10 yrs. Hope he can pull more DCHs, though...
Sunehri - yes of course an aggressive agent and a massive publicity machine are prerequisites for Hollywood success. But you have some misperceptions, probably fueled by the Indian media & the Internet. Your average American has never even heard of Ash, never heard of let alone seen Bride & Prejudice, doesn't even know that India HAS a film industry, is bombarded with foreign actresses appearing on Oprah/Letterman/Loreal-ads, and would never perceive Ash as anything other than Indian (ok, maybe Greek). Fair skin and light eyes do not a non-Indian make over here. But from an American's perspective, the ones in my post above don't look strictly Indian & could pass for Latina, Black, or just Heinz-57 hybrid American. Finally, Ash hasn't made a single Hollywood movie - only British productions (B&P, Provoked) and indie films (MoS, LL).
Reflections it's interesting
Reflections it's interesting how you assumed that my imagination is governed by Indian media.....first of all, I've been living in US for last 10 years so I am pretty aware of where Aish stands.....an average American(read Joe Red neck) doesn't know who Lucy Liu is so let alone Aish and I agree with you there.....trust me I have no misconceptions about Aish's prospects....I love the fact that Indian media hypes her as " global superstar" whereas she's just a speck here.....
What I was commenting on was your argument about Sush etc being more successful than Aish here.....I think Aish is little ahead in the race there and it's a little late for those actresses to even gain an entry here.....and on the topic of them getting roles as blacks and latinos...how many black and latino successful actresses are there in Hollywood?.....you can probably count them on your fingers so for hollywood to use an Indian actress in the role of a Latino is a long shot.....
anyways I think they are much better where they are.....and should come to Hollywood if they really feel they should, not because it's some stupid media pressure....
Lets go back to tope 10 in
Lets go back to tope 10 in next years, i would say....
Actors
1) Jr Bachan
2)John Ebraham
Actresses
3) V Balam
4) Aisha Takiya
Directors
5) I see S L Bhanslai taking place for today's Yash Chpra
6) A very good propsects for F Akhtar, the guys got guts to make DON( Hit or miss.. still debatable)
7) 8) 9) & 10.. i let time to decide dat.. lolz
i agree with your list,
i agree with your list, however i agree that aish's shelf life is not gonna be that long, she is really showing her age now and i think she's seriously lost the glow and charm about her that she had just a couple of years ago, for me all her films are a desperate atempt to re assert herself as the queen of bollywood, the crown has well and truly moved on to priety and rani, bad luck ash!!!!!
Re: Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 y
I enjoyed the comments on the top 10 from all you ya...yet there are still things to be considered! Unlike Hollywood, bollywood has the talent of repeating the same old stories and daastanain. they just recycle them in way that you realize it in the end that you could have predicted the movie all along. but as far as the talent goes, they do have that for sure...thok ke hisaab se!!!
Abhishek rose well! out of the misty flops which he went for in the beginning, i started enjoying his movies from Yuva maybe where he really show the toughness and the rudness in the role! that was some seriousness. But the rohan's Bluffmaster left a mark and surely that movie has something different in it.
Along with Abhi, Ritesh Deshmuk (u spell like that right?) also gave an amazing performance in Bluffmaster. I'd say, there has to be a list of those who are considered that seriously these days but will shoot upwards with a good pace and one of them is Ritesh (Masti, Bluffmaster, Apna Sapna Money Money etc).
I know ppl are gonna hate me for this but i guess i have the right to share wot i think, Its about Ash! She never and i repeat never gave me those shizzels or the shivers, may it be her beauty or her performance that u wanna talk about. okay probably for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (where i first noticed her) or Devdas, these two were well done by her. I agree about Vidya Balan compared to her and even Vidya's got more that Ash cud even consider offering, besides her X-title of Miss World or Future Mrs. Bachan!
Hats off for Saif ali khan! no more to add!
Roshan Vs. Bachan! they can't make anything work as long as they dont get the right offers. Dad Roshan can`t help all the time with Roshan jr. image. He gotta be picky on his selection of movies coz he should himself consider himself as a superstar already to call for a vito on an offer! and for Bachan, he's getting his taste better and better,...
for the ladies: Vidya balan as i mentioned got wot it takes, no more of kajol and rani coz they're loosing it gradually. Some descent face needs to appear and take over coz i think, there is still open grounds for anyone, just not only from the current ones.
laters!
Re: Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 y
Its just a thought that came to my mind after I finished writing my previous long comment. Has anyone ever thought of why the bachans are making such a fuss of Ash-Hritikh liplock when Ash has done much more than that in hollywood, lip lock with Akshay Khanna (taal) etc?!!? besides that, bachans should have known that Aditya Chopra has a liplock scene in ever movie he makes (surprisingly DDLJ had none...but that was his first movie afterall)!!! on the other hand, Abhi has a scene with Rani mukherji in ´bunty n bubbly' whereas papa bachan has also kissed Rani in 'black' (lip touching lip is a kiss afterall). If needed, dad Roshan could have had the thought of letting hritikh kiss priyanka in 'krrish' and i'm pretty damn sure that priynka wouldn't have had any problems with that!!! but they didn't so that makes one thing clear...(keep in mind i'm not defending anybody here)....hritikh wasn't so keen on kissing Ash in the first place...he just did what the role required!!!!!
so without futher ado, i present my doubts about Ash-Abhi marriage and that they will end up separating their ways sooner or later!!! thats why, Abhi should never even consider marriying Ash in the first place!!!!! he deserves someone a dozen times better than someone like Ash!!! He should get someone outside the film lines or someone that has even a lil bit of dignity!!!
Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 year
I agree with Akshay Kumar As Top Ten ruling bollywood. I think his the right guy in the industry.
The only reason is his amazing performence. And the best think he have done all type of roles like Action,Romantic,Vilan, comadian, emotional etc. and had success.
vidya balan rox
vidya balan is a great actress. ash shouldnt be in the list
Re: I think Vidya Balan has more
UR RIGHT VIDYA ROXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I DONT AGREE.
Guys,I seriously do not agree. Here's my list:
1.Priety Zinta
2.Priety Zinta
3.Priety Zinta
Dont you think she ROXX!!!!
Re: Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 y
I seriously miss the names of rani mukherjee, kareena kapoor and priyanka chopra.
ONLY ONE NAME THAT WILL RULE FOR ETERNITY...SALMAN!
FORGET 10 YEARS, THERE'S JUST ONE NAME THAT WILL RULW BOLLYWOOD FOR ETERNITY...SALMAN KHAN. WITHOUT A DOUBT. BOLLYWOOD'S ULTIMATE ROCKSTAR. LONG LIVE THE KING OF BOLLYWOOD SALMAN KHAN.
Re: Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 y
Your list..........
1. Abhishek: May be, if he avoids Karan Johar.
2. Hrithik : After his first film, Roshan's has done nothing else but remakes of hollywood Koi mil gaya was remake of steven spielbergs E.T. while Krissh was remake of Minority Report. Hrithik has been reduced to inferior clone of hollywood. Hrithik has tremendous screen presence, charisma and looks, I hate to see him doing a copy cat and degrading himself. Hrithik needs a strong Story based film with superior script of the calibre and quality of Matrix, but ORIGINAL.
3. Aishwarya: Only looked good in Albela with Govinda, nowadays she looks under nourished refugee from bangladesh, with bones showing all over her thin body. Not a single HIT to her credit. Most over hyped in media for reasons other then her acting, just like Anna Kurnikova. Graceless dancing in GURU.
4. Aditya Chopra: Who's he?
5. Amitabh: How long will his career stretch? Silly entry to UP Politics. Silly reactions about comments made by Shahrukh Khan. I think he is on the verge of disgracing himself. Must take a clue from Lata Mangeshkar about maintaining an image in public.
6. A R Rahman: no spark shown after Lagaan. Is fast loosing his ability to give us melodies. But one can still expect something good from him. This dude is highly talented.
7. Farhan Akhtar: Just 3 movies, except for his first movie the other two were highly critised. Personally I think he is into films just because of his Dad, and will have to try that much harder to prove that he is not another case of child born with a Golden spoon in his mouth.
8. Saif Ali Khan: just a passing phase, current craze, will not last long.
9. Vidya Balan: does well in feel good , fun filled, light movies. I am not sure if she can do intense emotional scenes. Different form other glamorous heroines, she has a style of her own.
10. Rohan Sippy: Who's he?
Now let me complete the list with some of my probables who can rule the film industry in the coming years.
Shreyas Talpade: Lacks a Godfather. Will be tough for him to get a lead role in a mainstream cinema, but if he does he can give Abhishek and Hrithik a tough competition. His role in Iqbaal reminds me of Shahrukh Khan's days when he did Raju ban gaya gentleman,Kabhi Haa Kabhi naa, similar stage in their careers, poised for a take-off. How high his flight will be only time will tell.
Alisha Chinoy: can become a big time singer for lead actresses, based on her current resurgence. She has dream comeback, just like Ganguly. Was very good especially in Kajra Re. And with the decline of classical based singing of Nadeem Shravan type, introduction of item songs, singers like Alka Yagnik will be faded out. and new age singers like Sunidhi Chuahan not getting popular helps
Then there are lots of others like Rajpal yadav (substitute for Johny lever for comedy roles), Nagesh Kukunoor, Ram gopal varma (personaly I dont like his movies, but they do well), Samita Bangargi (remember Ramji Londonwaley?) etc etc....
MISSING KAJOL
Yes, I really must agree that Kajol is missed. She is today's best actress. I believe that she is the most likeable star of our times becuase of her honesty on camera. She will also stick around for another 50 years, but she will probably be choosy.
Re: I totally AGREE.
I TOTALLY AGREE, Preity Zinta is the best. I love her, she will always be the best. She is not one of those snobby, mean actresses, I have heard that she is a pretty nice person. She is beautiful (very fair), great at acting, and is kind and down to earth kind of person. Practically the best in the industry, what else can u want. Priyanka Chopra is also good looking in a different way.
Re: Top 10 that're "Most Likely" to Rule Bollywood for next 10 y
Gosh, what a lousy list. Firstly, you cannot discredit the 4 Khans (SRK, Salman, Aamir and Saif). Hell, they rule the industry now, you think they'll just fade in the next 5 years? No way, don't expect that to happen. Secondly, Hrithik is a super talented guy. He's going to only get better with age and experience. Abhishek FINALLY came into his own after what, 50 films and cameos?? That guy's got way too much backing and too little talent. Anyone could have acted after all! And I don't think he can do any role. I expect Abhi to fade out in the next five years - I think he's already hit his peak. He can't dance, he can't move right, I don't see him going anywhere. How could you put him over Hrithik?????
As far as women are concerned, sure Vidya is good, but Rani is definitely NOT out in the next decade. And Kajol, Priety, ... you're missing one huge chunck of India's talent.
